      Job Description

      The Field Service Engineer is responsible for verifying proper functioning, shipping and receiving, quality
      control, and writing test files for instrumentation. This position requires travelling on short notice and
      providing exceptional technical support to customers including installation, troubleshooting, testing, and
      repairing issues with hardware, software, or reagents.

      Essential Duties & Responsibilities
      1. Receive, QC and prepare instruments for shipment
      2. Verify proper functioning of instruments
      3. Verify proper functioning of test kit systems on instruments
      4. Write test files using different software systems
      5. Provide technical assistance to customers for hardware, software, and reagents via
      telephone and in-person communication
      6. Recognize and communicate product issues, complaints, improvements, and resolutions
      7. Document call contacts and assist with technical training of customers
      8. Install diagnostics instruments into customer laboratories
      9. Test reagents in customer laboratories on new and existing diagnostics instrumentation
      10. Train customers
      11. Provide on-site troubleshooting, repair and preventative maintenance
      12. Assist customers with meeting their regulatory and verification requirements
      13. Present product & technical information

      Scope of Authority
      Service and repair software and instrumentation.

      Non-Essential Duties & Responsibilities
      1. Maintain cleanliness of laboratory and equipment as needed
      2. Assist with kit assembly when needed

      Qualifications

      Education/Experience
      • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering or a related field and at least
      3 years previous work experience in a similar engineering position, or an equivalent combination
      of education and experience
      • Previous experience working with customers and working remotely
      • Previous diagnostic instrumentation experience preferred

      Computer Skills
      • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
      • Test Designer
      • Internet Explorer, Chrome, or Firefox
      • Must be willing and able to learn other software programs as needed

      Knowledge, Skills and Other Abilities
      1. General Laboratory knowledge (use of equipment; pipetting; personal safety; general lab
      practices)
      2. Technical knowledge of Immunochemistry & ELISA testing
      3. Knowledge of FDA Quality System Regulations (cGMP) and International Standards (ISO)
      pertaining to medical devices
      4. Ability to communicate technical information and problems with customers and co-workers
      5. Ability to learn new & existing instrumentation and software technology
      6. Maintain systems for tracking proper functioning of tests and equipment, software versions, and
      test file versions
      7. Ability to manually run tests
      8. Diplomacy and tact in resolving issues with co-workers and customers, specifically lab
      technicians and department managers
      9. Ability to travel on short notice for periods of up to one week
      10. Must be able to coordinate own travel arrangement when traveling to customer sites
      11. Evaluate software and determine causes of malfunctions
      12. General technical and customer assistance
      13. Record data, make computations, analyze results, and write reports
      14. Calibrate test equipment and determine causes of equipment malfunctions

      Certificate and Licenses
      • Must maintain a valid driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record

      Reasoning Ability
      Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only
      limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral,
      diagram, or schedule form.

      Math Ability
      Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, apply concepts
      such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. May needs to apply
      advances mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and
      permutations. Must be able to determine test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, and
      correlation techniques.

      Language Ability
      Must have the ability to perform all of the following in English:
      • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operation and maintenance
      instructions, and procedure manuals
      • Ability to write reports and business correspondence
      • Must be able to effectively present technical information and respond to questions from
      customers, and other employees of the organization

      Equipment
      • General Laboratory Equipment (pipettes, scientific balances, volumetric glassware, etc.)
      • Incubators, shakers, spectrophotometer, data loggers, laboratory freezers and refrigerators
      • Gold Standard Diagnostics’ proprietary equipment
      • Computers, printers, and faxes

      vision abilities required by this job included close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth
      perception and ability to adjust focus as well as see color.

      In this position, the employee will be required to work in a team environment where the noise level is
      usually moderate. The employee is frequently exposed to work near moving mechanical parts, blood
      borne pathogens, and human serum. The employee is occasionally exposed to extreme cold (nonweather).
      The employee will be required to handle human specimens (whole blood, serum, plasma,
      urine, etc.) and may be exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals.
