      Position Overview
      KIPP Public Schools Northern California incorporates technology and instructional software heavily into academic programs. Our students rely heavily on Chromebooks to access instructional programs and tools. The Technology Team Field Technician will manage KIPPu2019s fleet of over 8,000 Chromebooks to ensure that they are in good working order.u00A0 The ideal candidate enjoys supporting teachers and students, working in a school environment, fixing computers/devices, is highly organized, and has a customer-focused mindset. This role also assists with IT related projects across the organization and has opportunities to develop a variety of technology skills.u00A0u00A0
      The Field Technician will report to the Associate Director of Technology.u00A0 The main IT office is located in the Regional Support Office in downtown Oakland.u00A0 Field Techs are assigned a portfolio of schools in geographic proximity and can be based out of either the main IT office or a u2018homeu2019 school within the set of assigned schools.u00A0 This role requires frequent travel to our school campuses around the Bay Area.u00A0
      This role works in-person at various school sites Monday - Thursday. Remote work is generally allowed on Fridays, unless make-up time is required at a school campus or an in-person team meeting with the team is scheduled (usually once per month).
      Qualifications and Characteristics
      Education:
      • Associateu2019s degree, Bacheloru2019s degree, or and relevant technical certification required, Bacheloru2019s degree, or higher preferred.
      Experience
      • At least 1 year of experience repairing computers or other technical devices; Chromebook repair experience a plus
      • At least 2 years experience working in a professional work environmentu00A0
      • Experience with Chromebook, Mac and Windows computers desired (95% of our staff are on Apple devices)
      • Familiarity with ChromeOS, Google Admin console, and JAMF a plus.
      Knowledge/skills required:
      • Strong customer service orientation & desire to help school staff.
      • Excellent communication skills; ability to present solutions to staff in non-technical jargon.
      • Extremely responsible and highly professional conduct.
      • Rapid and curious learner; strong desire to investigate and fix issues
      • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
      • Access to reliable transportation and ability to travel across our Stockton Schools and to our other sites in the Bay Area occasionally.
      • Must have a valid driveru2019s license and reliable vehicle with appropriate insurance (required) - all work-related travel is reimbursed by KIPP).

      Key responsibilities:

      School site Technology and Staff & Student Device Management

      • Own provisioning and deploying student and staff devices (e.g., MacBooks, Chromebooks, iOS devices) for staff and students. Perform computer imaging tasks, new hire deployments along with intake equipment from exiting employees and yearly refresh cycles.
      • Repair and request replacement Chromebooks as needed. Log all Chromebooks in the asset management system, maintaining accurate records for new, retired, and broken devices.
      • Work with the Business Office Manager (BOM) and/or Director of School Operations (DSO) to maintain up-to-date Chromebook and Staff device inventory data.
      • Serve as Tier 1 and 2 support in troubleshooting, auditing, and maintaining campus technology including, wireless access points, switches, printers/copiers, cameras, and classroom technology, such as projectors, document cameras, interactive whiteboards, and Apple TVs.u00A0

      u00A0School-Based Technology Support Service

      • Serve as the primary IT point of contact for our 5 schools in Stockton, ensuring responsive and effective technical support through prompt ticket response, management, and resolution in our HelpDesk (Fresh Service) following our Service Level Agreements (SLAs).
      • Provide on-site school support 4 days per week, log and escalate reported technical issues, and ensure schools receive excellent service, following our standard operating procedures. One day a week may be done remotely.
      • Maintain regular communication with school staff members to report on support activities and technology updates, and escalate to other tech team members such as the Associate Director of Field Operations.
      Technology Operations and Process Improvement
      • Contribute to the Technology teamu2019s strategy and operations by making recommendations to how we improve delivery of IT services, such as refinements to our standard IT operating procedures or initiatives that could improve collaboration across our stakeholders or accuracy of inventory management.u00A0
      • Own facets of larger to IT related projects that may include collaboration with other departments, such as Facilities, Operations, Human Resources, or the Academics Team
      • Be the on-site hands working to help troubleshoot more complex issues with the Associate Director of Field Operations, Managed Network Service Providers (MSP) and the Systems Administration Team.
      Physical, Mental and Environmental Demands

      Physical: Ability to navigate office and school campuses, and hold meetings in different spaces. Traditionally, much of the day involves sitting. Ability to access and utilize technology. Occasional lifting/carrying of equipment up to 50 lbs.

      Mental: u00A0 Ability to manage stress of normal work standards, decision making, and deadlines. Critical thinking and mental focus necessary to analyze problems and work with interruptions. Ability to collaborate well with others and also ability to work independently as you will be working primarily remote and away from teammates.u00A0

      Environmental: School environment subject to constant interruptions and distractions. Frequent travel required. KIPP adheres to health and safety guidelines as outlined by the CDC, CDE, and public health agenciesu2019 recommendations.



      Classification
      Full-time, non-exempt position on a full year calendar cycle, located in our Regional Support Office with regular travel to schools and districts.



      Must possess a valid California driveru2019s license and have access to a reliable vehicle for work-related travel.

      We benchmark annually against comparably-sized non-profit organizations in the regions where we operate, to offer competitive salaries. The hourly rate for this position is between $27.88 and $34.13. Most candidates would be compensated at $29.33 per hour.
