      This summer internship is anticipated to take place from May through September 2024 for a total of 12-weeks. Start dates can be flexible.

      The Department of Local Service s Road Services Division is seeking an intern to join our Budget and Finance unit. Our diverse team prepares and monitors capital and operating budgets, ensures compliance with federal, state, and local requirements, and manages the financial health of our organization. Some of our work includes, the development of complex budget and fiscal year-end reports and documents, supporting the management of grant funds, overseeing financial systems and processes, and identifying areas for process improvements.

      As the largest division within the Department of Local Services, Road Services Division is responsible for 1,500 miles of roads, 185 bridges, 5.7 million feet of drainage ditches, and other related infrastructure in unincorporated King County. Our work directly supports a wide range of capital projects that provide responsive and effective support to residents and business.

      This position is open to undergraduate and graduate students who are currently enrolled as a full-time student and continuing in the fall of 2024 from an accredited institution. You must provide proof of full-time enrollment upon hire, and for each quarter or semester during the regular school year.

      SALARY INFORMATION (DEPENDING ON QUALIFICATIONS):
      Intern II - Undergraduate pay range is $20.10 to $25.48/hourly
      Intern III - Graduate pay range is $22.63 to $28.69/hourly

      INTERVIEW PROCESS:
      The most competitive candidates will be invited to participate in one or more panel interviews. First interviews are anticipated to take place virtually via phone and or by Teams during the week of March 11th, 2024.

      WORK SCHEDULE
      The work week is normally Monday through Friday, 8.00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.) but may at times require work outside of normal business hours. Occasional in-person work at various King County facilities or project locations may also be required. This position is Non-Exempt from the provisions of the Fair Labor Standard Act and is eligible for overtime pay, with prior supervisor approval.

      TELEWORKING REQUIREMENTS:
      This is a hybrid position. The work associated with this position will be performed by teleworking, onsite in-office work and meetings as needed. The responsibilities of this position may include regular and ongoing in-office work. Occasional in-person work at various King County facilities or project locations may also be required.

      Employees will have access to shared workspaces at various King County facilities. Employees must reside in Washington state and within a reasonable distance to their King County worksite to respond to workplace reporting requirements. Employees will be provided with a County issued laptop and must maintain a workspace with an internet connection (access may be supplemented in some situations) where they can reliably perform work and remain available and responsive during scheduled work hours.

      King County has a robust collection of tools and resources to support working remotely. The individual selected for this opportunity will be joining an innovative and progressive team that is redefining how we work as we transition to the department's hybrid environment.
