This position is within the Financial Accounting function of TJX Europe, part of The TJX Companies Inc., which is listed on the NYSE. TJX Europe currently comprises more than 700 retail stores across the UK, Ireland, Germany, Poland, Austria and The Netherlands under the branding TK Maxx and HomeSense as well tkmaxx.com in the UK and tkmaxx.de in Germany.
- TJX Europe is a growing business within the European Retail Sector with turnover of more than £4b (FY20).
- This position is part of the Financial Accounting function responsible for providing accurate and timely monthly and quarterly reporting to the US Head Office, in addition to monthly management accounting to the European business.

Manage the development of two direct reports through objective setting and performance appraisal, regular 1-2-1’s and coaching, creating a great work environment and providing general leadership.
- Lead the team to successfully complete the period end close, including reviewing the preparation of financial statements and reconciliations and support schedules under US GAAP for corporate submission.
- Responsible for the ownership of the i) Shared services and ii) Homesense UK & Ireland P&Ls; including the monthly preparation of these P&Ls and collaborating with colleagues in the BP&A, Commercial Finance & Financial Control teams to ensure a clear and common understanding of variances to the annual budget and monthly re-forecasts.
- The budgeting, reconciliation and re-forecasting of all lease accounting costs for Shared Services and Homesense stores and superstores.
- The maintenance, reconciliation & reporting of Fixed Asset spend (both US GAAP and local GAAP) for Shared Services and Homesense stores and superstores.
- Ensuring the appropriate review and approval of major Balance Sheet items in accordance with defined SOX controls; with any risks or opportunities clearly identified & communicated.
- Responsible for the preparation of local GAAP Financial Statements for a number of UK legal entities.
- Support the Manager of with the statutory accounts process for Finance, engaging with key internal and external stakeholders globally.
- Business partner with key stakeholders to support the requirements for the TJX Europe Foundation.
- Actively participate in, leading as appropriate, the implementation of process improvements and new reporting and control requirements as necessary.
- Work with the Financial Accounting leadership team on other activities such as talent.
- Responsible for an assigned Champion role within the Financial Accounting team.
- Other ad hoc tasks deemed as reasonable and appropriate by management.
- Qualified accountant with proven post qualification experience in a multi-site environment;
- A thorough understanding of closing routines / ability to ensure integrity of the general ledger in all areas of responsibility;
- An understanding of intercompany accounting in compliance with local and US GAAP;
- Flexibility in approach and a willingness to go beyond the defined role;
- Experience of Financial Reporting in both US GAAP and local statutory reporting;
- Ability to critically evaluate processes and oversee the execution of recommendations for improvement;
- Ability to develop relationships at all levels of the business;
- Ability to business partner and explain financials to non-financial personnel;
- Developed analytical skills and problem-solving skills.
