Join Southwest as a S ummer 202 4 Intern, with a 12-week internship lasting from May 21 to August 9 , 2024 .
Work onsite at our Corporate Campus in Dallas, TX.
Workplace flexibility for 50% of the time is typically available, but interns are expected to be onsite for Intern- related events .
Dedicate 40 hours each week to your internship responsibilities and tasks.
Receive hourly pay of $22 and receive a one-time $1,000 stipend on your first paycheck .
Receive free, unlimited space available travel privileges for yourself (taxes and fees may apply on international travel) .
Interns will be provided any required equipment, such as a laptop, for the internship.
High School Diploma, GED or equivalent education required .
Must be at least 18 years of age.
Must have authorization to work in the United States as defined by the Immigration Reform Act of 1986.
You must have a valid U.S. Social Security Number to complete the full hiring process.
This position requires authorization to work in the United States as a permanent employee without sponsorship now or in the future.
Progress towards degree, major, or minor in Accounting, Aviation, Business, Economics, Engineering, Finance, Risk management or a similar degree .
Minimum Sophomore status. May not have an undergraduate graduation date of May 202 4 or prior, unless already enrolled in a full-time graduate degree program at time of application.
To be eligible you must be currently enrolled as a full-time student as defined by your university at the time of application.
Minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA at the time of application.
Experience with Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint required .
Advanced Excel is required .
Able to build and deliver PowerPoint presentations is preferred .
Experience with tax research software programs , SAP, and Alteryx preferred.
Able to effectively communicate in writing the results of their work.
Coursework in Accounting, Auditing, Tax preferred .
Basic understanding of financial statements and concepts, economics and principles preferred.
Involvement in campus organizations, clubs, or extracurricular activities preferred.
Previous Leadership positions or experience preferred.
Knowledge of CI/CD philosophies preferred.
Analytical experience preferred.
Experience in financial modeling preferred.
Able to use Word to write memos communicating the result of their work.
Able to use Excel to record data, create reports, create PIVOT tables, etc.
Able to use PowerPoint to build presentations for verbal communications.
Must possess excellent organizational and time management skills.
Ability to work independently and the willingness to function as part of a team.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with a diverse group, including Senior Leaders and subject matter experts.
Required: Full time 40hrs a week .
Must maintain a consistent weekly schedule during normal business hours at a max of 8hrs per day .
You must reside in Dallas, TX during the internship and work a hybrid schedule of at least 50% in office and be onsite for applicable intern events.
Program Dates: May 2 1s t – August 9 th , 2024

Southwest Airlines' Finance, Tax, and Accounting Internships span across several different Teams within department(s). Interns may be asked to support a variety of projects within one or more of the following Teams:
Accounting
The Financial Accounting and Reporting team is responsible for maintaining the chart of accounts, recording the majority of manual journal entries, reconciling the majority of the balance sheet accounts, and explaining relevant accounting treatment. Assist Revenue Accounting and maintain working in compliance of ASC 606 Revenue Guidance and maintain compliance of GAAP. In order to ensure completeness, the team accumulates data from around the company, consolidates , analyzes, verifies, and explains variances, trends, or abnormalities. Lastly, once the financial records are final the team ensures that financial reports are prepared in accordance with all reporting agency requirements.

Corporate Tax
The SWA Tax Team is made up of 21 Warriors, each possessing a Servant’s Heart and a fun-loving a ttitude. Together, we are responsible for Southwest’s federal, state, and local tax obligations. Our work is performed almost entirely in-house, and we keep our fingers on the pulse of the Company at all times .

Financial Planning and Analysis
The Economic and Industry Analysis Team resides within the Financial Planning & Analysis organization, partners frequently with Corporate Strategy, and supports a number of departments across Southwest Airlines. This team provides objective , data-driven analysis of external factors that meaningfully impact Southwest’s financial performance, planning, and strategy. Core accountabilities of the Economic and Industry Team are to understand the drivers of Southwest’s and competitor’s profitability as well as quantify the impact of economic conditions on Southwest’s and the industry’s financial performance. Many of the team’s responsibilities are highly visible at the executive level and help drive crucial conversations throughout the organization.

Treasury
Teams falling under the Treasury umbrella are Cash Management, Corporate Finance, Fleet Transactions, Corporate Insurance, Aircraft Warranty, Payment Strategy, Fleet Asset Management and Fuel Hedging. The teams interact extensively.
