      About us:

      The Financial Aid unit of the University Registrar's Office under the Vice-Provost, Strategic Enrolment Management supports in the administrative processes and procedures for Government funded financial aid programs, need based financial aid programs and the University of Toronto Assistance Plan (UTAPS).

      Your opportunity:

      Under the general supervision of the Associate Director, Financial Aid, the Financial Aid Clerical Assistant is responsible for supporting the business processes related to the administration of full-time and part-time government-funded student aid for students from Ontario and other Canadian jurisdictions as well as United States residents accessing Federal Direct Loans. Administration of full-time and part-time government aid includes processing applications; reviewing documents for completeness and accuracy; identifying and obtaining from students information and/or missing documents; data entry using various University of Toronto and government systems; keeping current on basic government and university student aid practices and procedures; and adaptability to changing government systems.

      Your responsibilities will include:

      • Tracking and monitoring student registration and/or enrollment status
      • Verifying the eligibility of applicants
      • Verifying the accuracy and completeness of documents
      • Verifying the accuracy of financial aidentitlements
      • Updating and maintaining database records
      • Resolving issues within the scope of the role and escalating problems as required
      • Acting as the first point of contact for general enquiries
      • Tracking and monitoring distribution of awards and financial aid

      Essential Qualifications:

      • College Diploma (2 years) or acceptable combination of equivalent experience
      • Minimum two (2) years related experience in a high volume environment in the clerical support and/or customer service areas
      • Experience with fast and accurate data entry
      • Excellent, accurate keyboarding skills
      • Adaptable to change – ability to adapt to different government student aid systemsused across Canada and the US; adaptability to new software tools; demonstrated ability to adapt to new policies and procedures quickly and accurately
      • Good oral and written communication skills; good interpersonal skills
      • Good organizational and time-management skills; accuracy and attention to detail
      • Reliability; ability to exercise judgement; ability to exercise discretion, tact and judgment; demonstrated ability to work with confidential information and to ensure privacy of student information is maintained at all times
      • Ability to work under pressure and to meet deadlines
      • Cooperative; ability to work both independently and as part of a team
      • Service-oriented attitude


      Assets (Nonessential):

      • Familiarity with university and government student aid programs in Canada and the United States is an asset
      • Familiarity with ROSI is an asset

      Pay Scale Group & Hiring Zone:
      USW Pay Band 07 -- $59,172. with an annual step progression to a maximum of $75,673. Pay scale and job class assignment is subject to determination pursuant to the Job Evaluation/Pay Equity Maintenance Protocol.
