DESCRIPTION:
Under the general direction of the Supervisor Capital Accounting, the Financial Analyst – Capital is accountable for the preparation and analysis of financial information related to FortisAlberta’s capital assets. This position will contribute to property and capital accounting and associated reporting activities to support rapid and accurate period-end close (monthly, quarterly, annually).
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE (but not limited to):
• Responsible for timely and accurate set-up and maintenance of capital projects and fixed asset records.
• Provide capital project reporting, project set-up and completion services to business operations.
• Prepare and review journal entries, account reconciliations and related analysis.
• Focus on cost management, ensuring the accuracy and completeness of capital expenditures, analysis of monthly variances, as well as advising the supervisor of any issues identified.
• Maintain effective relationships with multiple internal stakeholders to support the accounting and reporting process,
• Assist external and internal auditors in performing quarterly reviews and year-end audits of financial statements.
• Support the analysis of overhead loadings to forecast allocation percentages associated with capital expenditures and recommend loading rate changes.
• Assist in the preparation of Depreciation studies.
• Provide accounting support for certain significant capital transactions.
• Attend select inventory counts to conduct internal review and assist in ensuring proper procedures are followed and an accurate count is conducted, as well as provide support in identifying issues and possible solutions.
• Special projects and other duties as assigned.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
• Working knowledge of accounting principles and the ability to clearly convey information to various audiences.
• Excellent organizational and time management skills, and ability to work independently, in order to manage multiple priorities and competing demands with tight timelines.
• Effective analytical and critical thinking skills required to resolve issues and identify possible solutions.
• Demonstrated knowledge of operating expenditures, capital expenditures and prepaids to ensure expenses are properly recognized; experience with capital accounting would be an asset.
• Customer service focus with the proven ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with team members and internal and external stakeholders.
• Demonstrates initiative in recognizing opportunities for improvement and efficiency, with a willingness to challenge status quo.
• SAP experience in Asset Management and FI/CO modules would be considered an asset.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• A Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Finance, Commerce, or Business Administration plus a minimum combined 5 years of financial analysis and accounting experience is required.
• An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
