Providing financial support for the department’s sponsored projects, research grants, endowments, gifts, and general funds.
Reconciling purchasing card reports for goods and services.
Processing travel (domestic and international), group meals, out-of-pocket reimbursements, and booking fleet reservations.
Completing journal entries, check/cash deposits, and reviewing/approving reports.
Ensuring proper documentation/approvals are completed with supporting documentation.
Assisting with procurement of goods and services via ShopOnlion or Non-PO invoices.
Assisting vendors with the registration process and acting as proxies for visitor/ guest/candidate/speaker reimbursements/honorariums.
Providing faculty support, including assisting faculty in managing individual cost centers, grants, subcontracts, start-up funds, and monitoring and reporting financial activities.
Understanding and following University policies, guidelines, and procedures.
Serving as a backup for other business processes and acting as delegate or proxy as needed.

The Department of Nutritional Sciences in the College of Health and Human Development is seeking qualified candidates for a Financial Associate position. This position provides budgeting, finance, and accounting support and guidance to department faculty, staff, and students while working in conjunction with the College’s research and finance offices.
Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to the following:
The ideal candidate will have knowledge of computer-based programs/resources, including navigation of SIMBA (Penn State’s System for Integrated Management, Budgeting, and Accounting), SAP Concur (Penn State’s purchasing card software program), Microsoft 365, and Adobe, as these tools are used to complete tasks. Knowledge of Penn State's policy and procedures is beneficial.

Education and Experience
The position will be filled as a level 3 or 4 depending on the final candidate's qualifications and experience. Typically requires a High School Diploma and three or more years of experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Additional experience and/or education and competencies are required for higher-level jobs.
Successful candidates should demonstrate outstanding interpersonal, organizational, and communication abilities, the ability to multi-task, demonstrate a high level of attention to detail, and accurate record management. The candidate will need to analyze expenditures for appropriateness and compliance within each University purchase. The ability to work independently yet function within a team-driven organization is a must. In addition, this position must be able to provide exceptional customer service to diverse populations of students, faculty, staff, and others.

Additional Information
After a successful training period, this position may operate on a hybrid remote/onsite schedule.
Due to the financial and fiduciary responsibilities of this position, successful completion of a credit history check will be required in addition to standard background checks.
