- Ensure all employees are properly trained and follow safety policies and procedures.
- Responsible for maintaining and supporting a safe working environment in the plant.
- Consistently supervise conditions and crew practices throughout the shift to identify and resolve unsafe conditions or at-risk behaviors.
- Participate in and support accident investigations and Behavior-Based Safety observations.
- Coordinate first aid to employees as needed.
- Conduct priority-setting and crew-directing activities to facility daily progress toward monthly production targets.
- Schedule crews, including overtime (considering equalization), vacations and PTOs, as well as supervising and addressing absenteeism.
- Resolve machine center/line problems which result in downtime and/or product quality deficiencies, including coordinating the use of outside resources as needed.
- Keep the plants between their min/max inventory levels of each input type requires constant oversight. Failure could result in plants shutting down or unsafe operating conditions.
- Manage operational supplies.
- Provide input and interact frequently with Maintenance personnel as it relates to machine center reliability, repairs, and coordination of weekly and scheduled PM schedules.
- Acquire and communicate improvement ideas, whether from crew members, management or self-directed.
- Promote Environment, Health, and Safety (EHS) policy, implement the EHS management system and encourage continual improvement of EHS performance in day-to-day operations.
- Maintain active observer status by performing one observation per month on average.
- Special projects and other tasks as assigned.
- Promote and understand the SBI program.
- Maintain and manage 5S projects and housekeeping initiatives and standards.
- Work with operators and helpers to reach consensus decisions.
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Minimum 5 years of manufacturing experience.
- Minimum 2 years of supervisor experience.
- Ability to prepare and make group presentations.
- A good understanding of manufacturing systems and computer (MS Office, Windows, Kronos,etc.) systems.
- Personal traits should include the ability to use human relation skills to empower, train, understand, and develop others to attain the objectives
- Must be self-motivated and possess excellent reading, writing, listening, and verbal skills.
- Must be flexible and able to operate in a fast-paced environment, with ability to balance multiple tasks and prioritize work.
- Ability to represent Novelis with external parties
- Ability to work evenings, weekdays, and holidays.
- Ability to respond to trouble calls 24-hours a day.
- BS or Technical Degree from an Accredited College

The Novelis Uhrichsville team is seeking an Associate Operations Leader to join our team. This position works closely with various line and staff personnel at all levels of the organization. It provides guidance for continuous improvement projects, troubleshooting of various manufacturing operations, maintenance diagnostic work, developing standard operating procedures, employee training and assessment, quality issue resolution, and employee engagement.

Location Profile
Opened in 1985 the Uhrichsville facility produces flat rolled aluminum coil. The Recycling mill prepares scrap aluminum that is used in the rolling mill to create rolled aluminum coils to a desired gauge. Anneals temper the aluminum then it is leveled and sized to customer specification. Employing more than 400 people the facility produces aluminum sheet for building and construction automotive distribution transportation and consumer durable applications.
