      The City of Napa has an opening for Fire Prevention Inspector I/II in the Fire Prevention Division. You will have the opportunity to work directly with the public in various environments to educate and encourage positive interactions between Napa citizens and the Napa Fire Department. In this role, you have the opportunity to display your technical expertise, and grow through professional development!

      The mission of the Napa Fire Department is to serve the community from five fire stations covering 18 square miles within the City limits of Napa in the heart of the Napa Valley wine country. Each station provides an Advanced Life Support (Paramedic) response unit. In addition, Fire Station One provides an ALS Ladder Truck Company capable of specialized operations.

      Currently, department staffing consists of 67 operations, 6 fire prevention and 4 full time administration staff. Our present annual call volume is about 14,000 incidents per year of which 70% are medical in nature. The department participates in County HAZMAT and Rescue Teams.

      The Fire Prevention Division is responsible for adopting, amending and enforcing the California Fire Code, Building Code and other related NFPA standards and Codes. Our team conducts State mandated annual inspections and related re-inspections (Approximately 3000 annually), development construction inspections (Approximately 1000 annually), project plan reviews (Approximately 2000 annually), weed abatement inspections (Approximately 330 annually) and follows up on all citizen inquiries and/or complaints. In addition, we provide public education and outreach to the community.

      Positions in this class are flexibly staffed. Appointment to the higher class of Fire Prevention Inspector II requires that the employee meet the qualification standards for the classification. Advancement from one level of a flexibly-staffed classification to the next level of a flexibly staffed class series will be enacted in conjunction with a performance evaluation which documents attainment of the requisite experience, knowledge skills, and abilities.

      This recruitment and examination is being conducted to fill one (1) vacancy and may be used to fill future similar full-time vacancies as they occur during the active status of the employment list. The active status of this employment list will be at least six (6) months unless abolished sooner or extended beyond that date in accordance with the Civil Service Rules.
