      Job summary

      University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust have an opportunity for a Fire Safety Advisor / Trainer to join the Fire Team. The role will be working across all 5 sites of UHDB based at Queens Hospital Burton on Trent or at The Royal Derby Hospital. The post holder will support the fire safety manager in relation to fire safety issues with specific reference to the NHS Firecode standards and the requirements of the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005.

      The successful candidate will provide professional advice on all fire safety / prevention matters relating to staff and premises. To undertake fire safety inspections, fire evacuation procedures and to provide fire safety advice to all staff. The post holder will also develop and deliver fire safety training in line with the training needs analysis for the Trust, this will include face to face, e-learning and fire evacuation training to ensure compliance with all relevant Fire Safety legislation and guidance, in particular the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 and related Department of Health, Health Technical Memorandums (Firecode). The above will apply to all Trust sites including areas that work in other Trusts buildings.

      Main duties of the job

      Assist in completing fire risk assessments for all Trust Owned Buildings as required under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 and maintain the validity of these assessments.

      In consultation with the capital projects teams ensure that all alterations and projects are developed in compliance with all fire safety legislation, including the Fire Code, Building Regulations, Codes of Practice, Statute etc, and to promote modern, flexible and efficient fire safety services. This will also be in conjunction with the Trust Fire Authorising Engineers (Fire AE).

      Liaise with the local Fire and Rescue Service relating to the Trust's risks and procedures/fire policies and develop an integrated working arrangement to include familiarisation and participation in joint exercise training events.

      Develop and monitor the Trusts' local fire plans and review procedures regularly to ensure an efficient application of the requirements of the Trusts Fire policy.

      Manage, and regularly review all fire policy documentation to ensure it is kept up to date and in line with current guidance and best practice, developing new policies with the deputy fire safety manager.
