      Job Summary:

      The Fire Engineer is responsible for operating and maintaining fire apparatus and associated equipment, supporting incident command at emergency scenes, participating in emergency and non-emergency operations, and performing company-level supervision and administrative duties. The Engineer role builds upon foundational firefighter and driver/operator skills with added leadership, supervisory, and technical functions as outlined by department policy.

      Essential Functions:

      Customer Service

      · Conduct fire safety, home safety, fire extinguisher and pre-fire planning inspections.

      · Provide information to the public, install smoke detectors, conduct station tours, visit schools, and participate in public education standbys.

      · Work involves serving the public.

      · Work requires cooperative/supportive interaction with co-workers, supervisors, doctors and other healthcare workers.

      · Work requires interaction with representatives of other City departments, other fire departments and local, state and federal agencies.

      Emergency Medical Services

      · Responds to emergency medical calls by evaluating situations, providing emergency and non-emergency medical procedures both on scene and in a moving vehicle, and transferring patients to medical facilities. Provide written reports detailing patient care.

      Communications

      · Portable radios are used as a means of communication.

      · Must conduct all radio communications in a professional, respectful manner.

      Supervision and Training

      • Assign and oversee tasks during emergency and non-emergency situations.

      • Supervise and mentor firefighters and driver/operators.

      • Participate in internal investigations as directed by command staff.

      • Promote and participate in intercompany and interdepartmental training.

      • Encourage compliance with safety practices and department wellness programs.

      Compliance:

      · Collect and report incident response data accurately and promptly.

      · Complete and review reports for training, operations, and maintenance.

      · Must participate in scheduled and unscheduled onsite compliance audits.

      · Implements corrective/preventive measures as determined by the Corporate Compliance/Audit Committee.

      · Cooperates with Internal Audit, Compliance and HR on any recommendations and changes to compliance and legal workflow issues.

      · Takes swift and immediate action in accordance with Internal Audit and Corporate Compliance on any areas of concern.

      · Complies and enforces all policies and procedures.

      · Has successfully completed all required Compliance Training within the required time period.

      · Has had no compliance-related corrective action during the current review period.

      · Ensure compliance with HR policies and participate in member performance discussions.
