Introduction

As part of the Maryland State Department of Education, the Division of Rehabilitation Services (DORS) provides services to assist students with disabilities prepare for the work world, vocational rehabilitation services to assist adults with significant disabilities who are seeking to enter or reenter the workforce, and the adjudication of Social Security disability claims for the citizens of Maryland.

POSITION DUTIES
This position will providediverse accounting duties in the Fiscal Department, supporting the accounts payable function, which requires the review, verification, and interpretation of information to make determinations, process payments, and resolve problems in accordance with policies and procedures applicable to agency and state programs. Position Duties Include: Processes invoices and travel reimbursement utilizing the agency'sautomated accounting control system pertinent to agency programs based onthe application of policies and procedures to information. Reviews, verifies,and makes corrections to payments owed, posts payments, and keeps financialrecords. Maintains accurate data by entering and updating accounts whenadditional source documents are received utilizing automated accountingsystem. Approves account balances posted in ledger account with source documenttotals to identify records discrepancies. Research discrepancies in account balances by retrieving and examining original records for miscalculations and posting errors. Corrects inaccuracies in account balances and adjusts accounting records to balance with source document totals. Responds to inquiries, makes determinations, corrections and resolvesproblems relative to inaccuracies and discrepancies in records and documents processed. Explains basis of determinations to both internal and external customers. Reviews and interprets information in exception reports, invoices, and recordsutilizing knowledge of agency policies and procedures to determine compliance with same.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate. Experience: Two years of experience reviewing, verifying, recording, adjusting and balancing financial transactions. Notes: 1. Experience calculating and recording financial, statistical or other numerical data may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required high school education. 2. Six credit hours in accounting from an accredited college or university may be substituted for one year of the required experience. 3. A minimum of five courses or six months of accounting-related training in a vocational training program in subjects such as journalizing transactions, analyzing transactions into debits and credits, posting to a general ledger, payroll, bank reconciliations, accounts payable, and accounts receivable may be substituted for one year of the required experience. 4. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience in Financial Clerical/Finance Technicians classifications or specialty codes in the financial field of work at a rate of one year of military experience for the required experience.
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Experience with accounts payable or invoice processing. Experience with processing payroll.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
