- Associate’s degree (or higher) in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- Familiarity with nonprofit or university grant accounting rules
- Prior work with fund accounting, cost-share tracking, or multi-institution collaborations.
- Intermediate Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, basic formulas).
- Exposure to audit prep, fixed-asset tracking, or procurement workflows.
Overview
The Fiscal Technician ensures that HRBRC’s day-to-day finances are accurate, compliant, and readily auditable. By entering and reconciling transactions, maintaining meticulous digital records, and preparing budget reports across multiple budgets, including our state budget and the budgets of partner institutions, the role provides real-time visibility into project spending and supports informed decision-making for executive leadership.Responsibilities
Transaction Processing & Reconciliation: Enter purchase orders, recurring expenses, credit-card charges, and inter-institution transfers; reconcile bank statements monthly. Budget Monitoring & Reporting: Update budget-to-actual spreadsheets, flag variances, and prepare summary dashboards for senior leadership. Documentation & Record-Keeping: Organize digital copies of invoices, receipts, contracts, and payroll back-up in SharePoint/Teams; ensure files meet sponsor and university retention rules. Accounts Payable/Receivable Support: Verify accounting codes, obtain approvals, route for payment, follow up on outstanding receivables, and maintain vendor/customer files. Process Improvement & Audit Prep: Streamline spreadsheets, draft SOP checklists, and assemble quarterly audit packages including reconciliations and supporting documentation.Qualifications
Foundational coursework in bookkeeping, accounting, or business math.
Proficiency with spreadsheet software (Excel or Google Sheets) and cloud file systems.
Demonstrated attention to detail and ability to handle confidential financial data.
