- Oversee day to day operations of laboratory including chemical inventory management (including ordering supplies), coordination of resources used across multiple lab groups, leading in-person chemical safety training and technical training, record keeping, coordinating personnel including student activity, manage projects, assist with and conduct specific research projects and other organizational and administrative duties as necessary
- Ensure proper maintenance of laboratory equipment
- Independently troubleshoot and diagnose equipment failures
- Prepare and maintain common use chemicals and biologicals
- Design and implement various methods/protocols pertaining to biological analyses
- Implement minor changes to processes to solve problems and/or improve effectiveness
- Design experimental protocols, applying programming language and statistical analysis as needed
- Process animal tissues and other samples using a variety of molecular and physiological tools
- Ensure compliance with REM safety regulation for the laboratories and with LAP/PACUC animal use regulations for departmental animal care facilities
- Assist with hazardous waste management
- Assist with animal husbandry of aquatic species (e.g.: fish, amphibian, algae, daphnia)
- Bachelor’s degree in biology, fisheries/wildlife biology, animal sciences, toxicology, biochemistry, molecular biology or related field
- 3 years of immersive research experience and experience with supervision of technical personnel
- Strong organizational and communication skills required to oversee daily operations (ex: chemical inventory management, coordination of resources use across multiple lab groups, leading in-person chemical safety training and technical training, record keeping, etc.)
- Ability to independently diagnose/troubleshoot equipment failures
- Knowledge of purchasing procedures and budget management
- Knowledge of relevant safety procedures
- Basic computer skills required (e.g., MS Office, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
- Master’s degree in biology, fisheries/wildlife biology, animal sciences, toxicology, biochemistry, molecular biology or related field
- Experience with animal husbandry of aquatic species (ex: fish, amphibian, algae, daphnia) and with hazardous waste management
- Experience with a programming language and statistical analysis of biological data preferred (e.g., R, Python, C++, etc.)

Job Summary
The department of Forestry and Natural Resources is seeking a Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences Laboratory Manager. This successful candidate is a competent and professional contributor working under minimal supervision to manage the fisheries and aquatic sciences laboratories in the FORS building. This includes helping with purchasing, developing standard operating procedures, maintaining equipment, training of students on lab safety and other techniques, and assisting with research being conducted in the Aquatic Sciences labs, including development and implementation of new techniques. The seven labs that will need to be managed are associated with several faculty and over 50 users/semester. Exciting current and past projects.
