      We are seeking energetic, passionate people who want to play a key role for the position of Fisheries Biologist 2 within the Division of Wildlife , headquartered at Fairport Fisheries Station in Lake county.       What you will do:

      • Develops & implements sampling for the study of fish population dynamics, fish habitat, community interactions, diet analysis, age & growth.
      • Conducts & oversees Lake Erie field assessment & research of Lake Erie fisheries (i.e., harvest and fish population assessment, plankton, invertebrates, habitat, and limnological conditions) using appropriate sampling methods (i.e., gill nets, trawls, electrofishing, plankton nets, hydroacoustics, tagging, creel).
      • Conducts & oversees laboratory analysis of field samples (i.e., fish age and growth, population parameters, fish diet analysis, & taxonomy of various aquatic organisms) using laboratory procedures & equipment.
      • Collates biological data using appropriate statistical methods; develops computer data formats, data bases, & programs for statistical analysis; interprets analyses & drafts special reports & technical publications; recommends management practices based upon research & survey results.
      • Represents the department on technical committees of the Great Lakes Fishery Commission's Lake Erie Committee & in that capacity, coordinates research with other agencies & institutions & participates in modeling fish yields & population dynamics.
      • Starting hourly pay of $26.72/hr with multiple pay increases over your first 7 years of service, with an end salary of $35.31/hr.

      Completion of undergraduate core program in fisheries science AND 24 months of training or 24 months of experience in management & coordination of fisheries projects.

      -OR completion of graduate core program in biological sciences to include 6 courses in fisheries science & 2 courses in statistics (e.g., fisheries management, fishery techniques, limnology, ichthyology, fish biology, fish ecology, aquatic entomology) AND 6 months of training or 6 months of experience in management & coordination of fisheries projects.

      -OR completion of graduate core program in fisheries science AND 6 months of training or 6 months of experience in management & coordination of fisheries projects.

      -OR 24 months of training or 24 months of experience as Fisheries Biologist 1, 22271.

      -OR equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications For Employment noted above.
