At Alcoa, you will become an essential part of our purpose: to turn raw potential into real progress. The way we see it, every Alcoan is a work-shaper, team-shaper, idea-shaper, world-shaper.
About the opportunity
Alcoa operates one of the world’s most innovative, sustainable and community focused Bauxite mine operations and we have entry level opportunities for those looking to gain exposure in the mining industry to join us!
Our 12-month Traineeships in Mine Maintenance Operations at our Huntly and Willowdale mine sites have been created to give successful candidates experience across all the areas of our fixed plant operations. Designed to include on and off the job competency-based training, the traineeship will work you towards the attainment of the nationally recognised qualification in Certificate II in Surface Extraction Operations.
Completing rotations across mine sites and working 12-hour day shifts you will gain exposure across:
Stacking and reclaiming – it’s here the bauxite comes off the overland conveyor, is stacked in stockpiles or delivered by train to the refineries. You will be conducting weekly maintenance and component change-outs. As well as physically demanding overhead work, you will be full trained to operate a variety of mobile equipment including skid steers forklifts, mobile cranes and elevated work platforms.
Crushing – another maintenance driven role, you will work closely with mechanical trades responsible for two crushers and a transfer station, operating mobile equipment and cleaning up using high pressure hoses.
Water & Electrical – as a member of the water crew you will look after the hydrocarbon DAF plants as well as piping systems, water pumps and sumps, maintaining all the associated equipment that moves large volumes of water across sites. In electrical crew the role is varied, assisting electrical trades all in daily maintenance of electrical infrastructure across site
Conveyors – these teams spend a large portion of their time ensuring the conveyors are functioning effectively to deliver the ore with only 2 out of 14 days focused on maintenance. During these activities you will be changing out rollers, assisting the belt patrol crew along the length of the conveyor and operating the train load out.
