- Perform repairs and maintenance on cars, trucks, trailers, boats, and off-road equipment.
- Conduct body and frame repairs, painting, decal application, and protective coatings.
- Modify vehicles and equipment to meet operational needs and specifications.
- Perform welding and fabrication on steel, stainless steel, and aluminum (MIG, TIG, Stick).
- Evaluate damage and prepare estimates for repairs and insurance claims.
- Refurbish trailers, install aftermarket equipment, and maintain alternative fuel tanks.
- Operate CNC unit, plasma cutters, and grinders safely and effectively.
- Assist with vendor selection and management of outside services.
- Must be 18 years of age or older at the time of hire.
- Skilled Trades & Technical Training; 4 - 6 years of related experience; or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Valid Driver's License in good standing.
- Must pass a medical evaluation and fit test, per OSHA regulations, to ensure a respirator can be safely worn when required.
- Welding Certification required or the ability to obtain within one (1) year of employment.
- Certification in body shop estimation and damage analysis required or the ability to obtain within one (1) year of employment.
- National Emissions Standards for Hazardous Air Pollutants (6H) required or the ability to obtain within one (1) year of employment.
- Ability to obtain ASE Certifications relevant to the position within one (1) year of employment.
- Ability to safely use a CNC unit.
- Extensive knowledge of principles, methods, materials, and tools used in body repair and painting.
- Thorough understanding of occupational hazards and necessary safety precautions.
- Proficient in welding techniques, including MIG, TIG, and Stick welding on steel, stainless steel, and aluminum.
- Competent in the operation of plasma cutters and grinders.
- Effective at diagnosing and repairing body and frame damage on automotive and heavy equipment.
- Skilled in the use and maintenance of tools and equipment for vehicle and equipment servicing.
- Adept at welding and fabrication of steel, stainless steel, and aluminum components.
- Capable of understanding and following verbal and written instructions.
- Proficiency in computer software, including Microsoft Word, Outlook Email, and Fleet Maintenance or Body Shop programs.
- Demonstrated success in establishing and maintaining productive working relationships.
- Strong communication skills, both verbally and in writing.
- Strong organizational skills to maintain accurate records and data.
- Full-time | Monday-Friday, 6:45 AM - 2:45 PM
- Starting Pay: $29.70 - $33.44 /hour

- Based at the District's Fleet Services facility in West Chicago, IL.
- Primarily shop-based work with occasional field work as needed.
