- Portfolio management of flexible, end-use load initiatives.

- Working with a steering committee of funding utilities to collaboratively develop a long-term business plan that will support a robust portfolio of flexible end-use technologies.
- Partnering with utility managers and operations staff to collaborate on flexible end-use load technology solutions that could help them meet their goals.
- Working with manufacturers of grid enabling technologies to figure out how to get to scale faster and cheaper in support of northwest utility grid operations that can take advantage of flexible end-use equipment.
- Leading a cross functional team to develop and implement strategic and tactical actions that support development of a portfolio of interactive flexible end-use technologies that help support a more reliable, energy efficient regional energy system.
- Collaborating regionally and nationally with other grid flexibility organizations, energy efficiency organizations, manufacturers and interested stakeholders to develop strategic market intervention plans.
- Fostering and maintaining business relationships with manufacturers, distributors, the Department of Energy, national laboratories, and other market actors to increase NEEA’s market influence and bring value back to the Northwest through increased scale of aggregated markets.
- Understanding how utilities and markets work together and how to identify the intersection between market needs and drivers and utility opportunities and requirements.
- Identifying and developing long-lasting business relationships in both regulated utility and free-market business environments.
- Communicating and collaborating to share your knowledge and co-create solutions to complex problems.
- Learning and applying new information, creating clarity from ambiguity.
- Developing large scale strategy while being sensitive to the importance of tactical elements that drive success at the ground level.
- Developing, tracking and adaptively managing a portfolio of technology opportunities in support of high-level portfolio objectives over long-term time frames.
- Navigating internal and external processes and relationships to bring new concepts to reality.
- Ability to see the long game, the creativity to develop effective interventions and the patience to build consensus among diverse stakeholders.
- Exceptional, executive level communication skills.
- Balanced experience with strategy, markets and technology, and curiosity to continuously learn and apply new knowledge.

- Strong leadership skills working in a cross-functional team environment.
- Master of Science degree, MBA or related advanced degree preferred. Academic course work in business, economics, marketing or engineering preferred.
- Minimum 10 years related working experience, including at least 4 years strategic market, product or program management experience and 4 years of cross-functional team leadership or first-line supervisory experience. Direct experience in new technology/innovation management, including market assessment, forecasting, risk assessment and deep understanding of market transformation discipline.
- Minimum 5 years of experience and knowledge in utility systems operations, demand-side resource management, end-use load flexibility technologies and grid-integration products/processes.
- Deep knowledge of energy efficiency, electric utility business operations and management, and Northwest/western energy markets is required.
- Experience developing, implementing, and managing business partnerships and corporate engagement strategies with manufacturers and supply chain participants (retailers, distributors, trade allies, etc.).
- Experience in creating strategic plans, developing, and managing to financial and operational plans and budgets.
- Experience in selecting and managing work through contractors.
- An equivalent combination of education, experience and training that would provide the knowledge, skills and abilities required for the successful performance of the essential job duties will also be considered.

Summary
Envision, develop, secure support for and manage implementation of a new, long-term, portfolio of flexible, end-use load market transformation initiatives (the load flex portfolio) that helps the Northwest region meet the needs for an efficient, reliable, economical, and resilient energy system. This position will set the vision and direction for the load flex portfolio as well as lead stakeholder engagement, key market relationship management, funding, and portfolio management and implementation. The load flex portfolio is currently in development, so this position is responsible for working closely with NEEA leadership and regional stakeholders to create, adjust, and evolve this area of work. While this person will not directly manage staff, the position directs the work of a cross-functional team along with multiple contractors in order to achieve the goals of the portfolio.
