      As an Intern , you can expect to:

      • Join Southwest as a S ummer 202 4 Intern, with a 12-week internship lasting from May 21 to August 9 , 2024 .

      • Work onsite at our Corporate Campus in Dallas, TX.

      • Workplace flexibility for 50% of the time is typically available, but interns are expected to be onsite for Intern- related events .

      • Dedicate 40 hours each week to your internship responsibilities and tasks.

      • Receive hourly pay of $22 and receive a one-time $1,000 stipend on your first paycheck .

      • Receive free, unlimited space available travel privileges for yourself (taxes and fees may apply on international travel) .

      • Interns will be provided any required equipment, such as a laptop, for the internship.

      The Flight Op erations department consists of more than 11,000 p ilots, flight i nstructors, simulator t echnicians, and support s taff. The Communications & Engagement t eam is responsible for keeping e mployees informed and engaged with daily operations and long-term strategic initiatives . The Flight Operations Engagement Intern will assist with developing and executing the overall communication and engagement strategy for Southwest Airlines Pilots and their support ing t eams.

      Duties and Responsibilities:

      The duties and responsibilities of the Flight Operations Engagement Specialist Intern may include , but are not limited to:

      • Drafting and editing internal newsletters, memos, videos, podcasts, and social media posts

      • Planning , attending, and facilitating culture (town halls, crew appreciations, Southwest Airlines Birthday Week, etc.)

      • Designing presentations and preparing talking points for senior leaders

      • Assist ing with other special projects relating to Flight Operations Communication s and Engagement as needed

      Basic Qualifications:

      • High School Diploma, GED or equivalent education required

      • Must be at least 18 years of age

      • Must have authorization to work in the United States as defined by the Immigration Reform Act of 1986

      • You must have a valid U.S. Social Security Number to complete the full hiring process

      Education:

      • Progress towards degree, major, or minor in English, J ournalism, P ublic R elations, M arketing, C ommunications, T echnical W riting, H ospitality, B usiness administration OR similar degree

      • Minimum Sophomore status. May not have an undergraduate graduation date of May 2024 or prior, unless already enrolled in a full-time graduate degree program at time of application

      • To be eligible you must be currently enrolled as a full-time student as defined by your university at the time of application

      • Minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA at the time of application

      Knowledge, Skills, Work Style & Abilities:

      • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint) required

      • Ability to stay organized and manage multiple concurrent assignments required

      • Ability to comprehend , proofread, and edit a variety of documents with a keen eye for accuracy and attention to detail required

      • Ability to communicate ideas clearly in written documents that have organization, structure, grammar, language, and terminology adjusted to the characteristics and need of the audience required

      • Ability to meet confidentiality expectations as to confidential, proprietary and sensitive Company information required

      • Ability to work independently as well as a part of a Team required

      • Problem solving ability preferred

      • Public speaking and presentation skills preferred

      • Event planning skills is a plus

      • Knowledge of employee engagement and recognition principles preferred

      • Experience with Canva , Camtasia, or Adobe Creative Suite (Premiere Pro, Illustrator, InDesign) is a plus

      Time Commitment and Pay:

      • Required: Full-time 40hrs a week

      • Must maintain a consistent weekly schedule during normal business hours at a max of 8hrs per day

      • You must reside in Dallas, TX during the internship and work a hybrid schedule of at least 50% in office and be onsite for applicable intern events.

      • Program Dates: May 21 st - August 9 th , 2024

      • $22 per hour + $ 1 , 000 one-time stipend paid on first paycheck
