      WHSmith North America is seeking a dynamic, flexible, and experienced food safety professional to join our growing team as a Food Safety and Quality Assurance Manager. In this role, you will serve as a critical resource with responsibility for ensuring the highest standards of food safety and quality across multi-unit/format travel retail locations. This role involves conducting regular audits, providing training, and implementing food safety programs to comply with local, state, and federal regulations. As the Food Safety and Quality Assurance Manager, you will work closely with Regional, General, and Store Managers, property/store staff, and cross-functional corporate teams to identify potential risks, develop corrective action plans, and promote a culture of food safety excellence.       Job Responsibilities

      • Enforcing Food Safety Standards: Ensure adherence to local and federal food safety regulations and company standards.
      • Training and Education: Deliver comprehensive food safety training and educational programs to field operators.
      • Monitoring Store Systems: Monitor and evaluate store systems to prevent foodborne illnesses and ensure compliance with food safety protocols.
      • Audits: Conduct regular audits of daily practices, including temperature checks, food quality assessments, and storage procedures.
      • Inspections: Inspect products and equipment to ensure compliance with federal, state, and company food safety standards.
      • Collaboration with Operations Team: Work closely with the operations team to maintain cleanliness and sanitation standards across all locations.
      • Support for New Store Openings: Provide food safety resources and training in preparation for new store openings.
      • Administrative Tasks: Perform administrative tasks such as audit reporting, documenting training sessions, and implementing corrective action plans.

      • Bachelor’s degree in food science, Microbiology, Public Health, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
      • 5-10 years of experience in a food safety role, ideally in a high-volume corporate or regulatory setting. Certification in food safety (e.g., SERV Safe, HACCP) is needed to be successful in this role.
      • Thorough understanding of current food safety regulations, including the FDA Food Code.
      • Effective communication skills, proficiency in writing, creating presentations, and engaging with staff at all levels, including senior management.
      • Ability to work well in a team, self-manage, and promote best practices.
      • Ability to travel for extended periods of time, including nights/weekends/holidays.
