Job summary
South Tyneside District Hospital Catering Department requires one full time food service assistant who has a flexible approach to work and work routines. We require cover across 7 days per week to include weekend working. The successful candidate will be expected to be flexible in their approach to shifts and shift patterns. This post requires weekend working. Full training is provided. Please note this post involves some driving, you will therefore require a full UK driving licence.
Main duties of the job
South Tyneside District Hospital Catering DepartmentTo ensure the patient, staff and visitor meal service is provided in a safe, clean and hygienic environment. Ensure high standards of cleanliness are met and maintained
Ensure that all food supplies which are delivered are checked following the Food Safety Management System (FSMS)
To be flexible on a day-to-day basis moving area to area and across departments (within catering)
Deep cleaning
Delivering patient meals
Driving the catering vehicle on and off site
Assist with food preparation as necessary and as requested
Liaise with supervisors and managers

Understand the International Dysphasia Diet Standardisation (IDDSI) descriptors which will assist the safe service to patients who require a modified diet
Ensure that all food supplies which are delivered are checked following the Food Safety Management System (FSMS)
Record food temperatures as directed by the FSMS
To be flexible on a day to day basis moving area to area and across departments (within catering)
Operate cash registers and card payment machines, complete cash declaration sheets
Ensure stock rotation is followed
Assist with food preparation as necessary and as requested
