      Summary

      The Program provides a one-year organized educational program with guidance and supervision to the Fellow Physician to facilitate professional, ethical, and personal development while ensuring appropriate compliance with the rules established by the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office and ACGME.

      TCME provides a scholarly environment committed to excellence, leadership, and the achievement of the educational goals set by the Graduate Medical Education Committee (GMEC), which will prepare the Fellow to sit for forensic board examinations.

      Essential Duties and Responsibilities

      1. Conducts inquests to determine the cause and manner of death under the supervision of Chief Medical Examiner including the following activities: reviews investigation narrative to establish case jurisdiction and to make initial determination regarding the scope of inquest and case assignments; directs and provides oversight to the activities of the support staff assisting in inquest; performs external examinations and autopsies; collects specimens and evidentiary materials and requests appropriate analyses to assist with determination of cause and manner of death; and prepares written reports regarding case findings including interpretation of specialized analyses.
      2. Completes all requirements set by ACGME fellowship program including but not limited to the following: 200 autopsy examinations; offsite death scene investigations; regularly scheduled didactic sessions; required journal club reading; court testimony observations; and forensic laboratory rotations.
      3. Testifies in local, state, and federal court proceedings.
      4. Maintains good working relationships with other agencies and county, state, and federal departments.
      5. Conducts research project as assigned and presents project at a professional association meeting such as the National Association of Medical Examiners or American Academy of Forensic Sciences annual conference.
      6. Completes competency tests at the beginning and end of program to demonstrate knowledge of forensic pathology.
      7. Performs all other related duties as required by Medical Examiner.

      Minimum Requirements

      TO APPLY, must be a pathology resident.

      TO APPLY, must be a Graduate of a medical school in the United States and Canada, accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME)
      OR
      TO APPLY, must be a Graduate of a college of osteopathic medicine in the United States, accredited by the Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation
      OR
      TO APPLY , must be a Graduate of a medical school outside of the
      United States and Canada who 1) possesses current valid certification from the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) or 2) has full and unrestricted license to practice in a United States licensing jurisdiction.

      Physical Demands and Work Environment & Other Requirements

      While performing the duties of this position, the incumbent is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, climb, stoop, lift, push, pull, and bend.

      Regular attendance is essential. Incumbent must arrive at work on time, prepared to perform assigned duties and work assigned schedule. Incumbent must have the ability to work well with others. Incumbent must be able to perform the essential functions of the position without posing a direct threat to the health or safety of themselves or others.
