      Job Description

      The Research and Development Chemist will be responsible for creating new products and technologies by utilizing chemicals, chemical compounds, and chemical processes. The R&D Chemist will also improve processes and test the quality of manufactured goods by examining chemical compounds and determining their interactions with other chemicals. This position requires a strong hands-on background in a wide variety of chemical processes and the ability to work independently with little supervision. The role is focused on new product development and will involve field tech support and creating custom formulations.

      Responsibilities

      • Lead projects from concept shaping to commercial launch of cutting-edge field-applied solutions.
      • Coordinate product design for compliance with engineering principles, customer requirements, and related specifications.
      • Support the development of business requirements for new products and enhancements to existing products.
      • Test and estimate compatibility of composites and resins with respect to a variety of chemicals and environmental conditions.
      • Explore new chemistries for field-applied composites.
      • Manage projects and work effectively in a team environment.
      • Document research and development work.
      • Ensure knowledge and experience of laboratory safety protocols.
      • Respond quickly to customer and company needs in a fast-paced environment.
      • Responsible for method development/validation experiments and reports, performing laboratory research and development under minimal guidance.
      • Generate protocols, data, and reports for method development, validation, and transfer.
      • Perform troubleshooting within method guidance.
      • Experience in late-stage analytical development and generating method development/validation reports, stability data reports for regulatory filings.
      • Extensive laboratory experience with in-depth knowledge of conventional laboratory characterization techniques.
      • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills with capabilities in experimental design and execution.
      • Investigate product development factors such as ease of manufacture, availability of materials and equipment, interchangeability, strength-weight efficiency, contractual specification requirements, cost-defining recommendations, and change proposals.
      • Complete defined technical tasks such as modifying product functional specifications, defining data elements and structure, analyzing and interpreting test reports.
      • Conduct routine analyses and/or tests to evaluate product designs, methods, materials, or processes and complete required technical documentation by applying engineering principles and company standards.
      • Provide technical information for review with product engineering and design review teams.
      • Adopt lean product development as well as standard engineering development techniques.
      • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing technical publications, and/or participating in professional associations.
      • Work assignments may include cross-functional or project team responsibilities. Contribute and support other teams as required.
      • Other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

      Essential Skills

      • Strong background in chemistry, formulation, and laboratory practices.
      • Proficient in HPLC and GMP.
      • 3-5 years’ experience as a Chemist, with variations depending on degree level (Bachelor with 10 years, Masters with 5 years, PhD with 3 years).
      • Fluency in English with good writing and clear communication skills.
      • Proficient in MS Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook).
      • Excellent hands-on laboratory skills, detail-oriented with excellent organizational skills.
      • Strong mechanical aptitude.
      • Ability to guide, direct, and provide technical expertise on products to colleagues, distributors, and customers.
      • Proven track record of consistently exceeding and/or achieving goals.
      • Experience in a field requiring autonomy and self-motivation.
      • Excellent communication and organizational skills, with the ability to communicate internally and externally.
      • Ability to use strong judgment with knowledge of company policies and procedures to resolve non-standard problems.
      • Problem-solving and analytical skills.
      • Strong work ethic and ability to multi-task.

      Additional Skills & Qualifications

      • Master’s degree, Bachelor Degree, or PhD from an accredited university in Chemistry (Polymer chemistry, synthetic organic chemistry) or Chemical Engineering.
      • Industry-related experience is a plus.

      Work Environment

      The role involves working in a laboratory and requires communication with production and other departments.

      Pay and Benefits

      The pay range for this position is $80000.00 - $100000.00/yr.
