      .Excet, Inc. is in search of a Mechanical Engineer/Material Scientist who will work as a member of the technical team performing and leading research, development and testing in the areas of environmental assisted cracking and fracture mechanics as related to the Navy surface ships, submarines, marine structures, aircraft and shore facilities. Candidates must be able to work with cross-functional groups involving government and industry partners to develop, test, manufacture and transition products or technologies to practical fleet applications and solutions. The position is full time in Key West, FL with occasional travel facilities in or near Washington, DC.

      Specific Duties include, but are not limited to:

      • Develop new experimental design and/or technologies at an R&D facility for marine corrosion, marine engineering, materials, electrochemistry, coatings, biofouling remediation and environmental effects
      • Will be expected to work as a project leader in specific corrosion science and engineering projects. The emphasis will be focused on environment-assisted cracking that occurs due to adverse effects of the environment within corrosive environments
      • Duties may include, but are not limited to, high and low stress cyclic corrosion fatigue, cyclic air fatigue, crack initiation and propagation fracture toughness testing
      • At times significant amounts of experimental setup, sample identification, collecting and analyzing data, experimental clean up and test equipment maintenance
      • Drafting design blueprints in Solidworks or similar platforms. Working with supply chain and vendors to revise blueprints as needed based on manufacturability and experimental testing considerations.
      • Strong understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing to effectively communicate design requirements and to leverage as potential source of cost savings
      • Will be expected to work as a part of a development team and see projects through initial concept, write proposals, execute tests, evaluate experimental results and formally document the results as author or co-author
      • Must be comfortable in handling multiple projects simultaneously

      Required Qualifications:

      • A MS or PhD in Polymer Science Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Engineering Mechanics or a related discipline, with thesis work related to mechanical properties of materials, polymer processing, structural/mechanical testing and fracture mechanics, machine control, polymer degradation, or viscoelasticity of solids

      A successful candidate will have technical proficiency in some or all of the following areas:

      • Polymer material degradation (environmental effects, structural testing, strain dependent properties)
      • Programming experience or machine control in executing complex multi-axial mechanical testing and standard ASTM/ISO procedures
      • Mechanical behavior and solid mechanics or viscoelasticity of plastic and composite materials
      • Experience with commercial software such as SolidWorks, LabView, Matlab, MathCad, Python, ABAQUS, COMSOL or equivalent
      • Experimental approaches to determining material performance and correlation of lab and field data in the following areas or similar
      • Nondestructive inspection
      • Experimental stress analysis
      • Bonded and/or bolted joint failure criteria and analysis methodologies
      • Design for environmental and/or corrosion protection
      • Composite structure failure criteria and analysis methodology
      • Accelerated Life Testing and/or weathering
      • Additive Manufacturing
      • Polymer processing
      • Materials degradation and risk analysis
      • Knowledge of safety principles and demonstration of safety competence and aptitude is required
      • Due to contractual security requirements, only candidates that can obtain and maintain a DoD Secret Security Clearance will be considered

      Desired Qualifications:

      • Project management experience is a plus, however that will not be the candidate’s primary function
      • Strong written and oral communication skills
      • Results focused and should take ownership for project objectives
      • Must be comfortable working in a collaborative environment
