      Duties/Responsibilities/Essential Functions

      • Transport guests of the Rocket Center and Space Camp to and from the Huntsville Airport, surrounding schools, and other locations within the State.
      • Drive the tour bus for the Marshall Space Flight Center bus tour.
      • Operate other center vehicles for transportation between Aviation Challenge and Space Camp Facilities.
      • Operate any Rocket Center vehicle and meet any other transportation requirements that might arise.
      • Operate company vehicles in an effective, efficient, and safe manner and ensure that all malfunctions are reported promptly for repair.
      • Transports employees, guests, and trainees in a safe and timely manner.
      • Respond to, and whenever possible, resolve guests’ questions and complaints promptly and in a manner, that reflects the Mission, Vision, and Spirit of the Rocket Center.
      • Meet or exceed the expectations of the Transportation Department for the accurate and timely completion of related tasks and assignments.

      Supervisory Responsibilities No

      Required Education and Experience

      Education: High School or G.E.D.

      Experience: 2-3 years of experience driving commercial vehicles is required. Class B with Passenger and Air Brake endorsement or higher Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) required. Must have some knowledge of bus operations and equipment; demonstrated substantive experience in the operations of large buses, mini-busses, and/or vans.

      Work Hours (Must be able to work at least two shifts)

      1. Monday through Friday from 6:00 am-3:30 pm.
      2. Sunday through Thursday from 3:00 pm-11:00 pm.
      3. Friday and Saturday from 6:00 am-11:00 pm.
      4. Open Availability (Can work any shift).

      Work Environment/Physical Demands Summary

      This position has the following special requirements:

      • Walking and climbing (stairs) to access other departments, buildings, and company vehicles.
      • Sitting for prolonged periods (over 3 hours) several times a day while driving center vehicles and lifting items weighing up to 40 pounds to waist height.
      • Bending, kneeling, and reaching to inspect center vehicles and operate controls.
      • Reading, sight, wrist movements, and feeling to operate center vehicles.
      • Talking and hearing to communicate with supervisors, guests, and employees in person and to give verbal instructions to passengers.
      • Ability to safely enter and exit all center vehicles.
      • This position involves working the operation of center vehicles in various weather conditions and temperatures.
      • The position deals extensively with guests and children.
      • The position deals with employees who interact with assigned areas of responsibility.

      Travel Required? Yes - to and from the airport and locally.
