      Job summary

      Essential attributes:

      Experience in dealing with the public by phone and in person

      IT skills/computer literacy

      Ability to work as part of a multi-skilled team

      37.5 hours per week

      Overtime available for covering holiday and sickness absence

      In-house training for duties will be given on a one to one basis

      Salary start at £12.90 per hour, with a pay review on completion of probationary period.

      Main duties of the job

    • Receive and make telephone calls as required. Divert calls and take messages, ensuring accuracy of detail and prompt appropriate delivery.
    • Ensuring appropriate appointment booking when requested by patients, GPs or nurses.
    • Completing day-to-day administration tasks such as handling inbound documents, registering new patients, data entry, prescription requests and recall of patients.
    • Promotion and compliance with safeguarding of all of our service users
    • Using your own judgement and communication skills to ensure that patients with no prior appointment but who need urgent consultation are seen in a logical and non-disruptive manner.

      Job description

      Job responsibilities

      The hours for this role is 37.5 and the working pattern will be Monday to Wednesday 8.30am-5pm, Thursday 8.30am-3.30pm and Friday 8.30am-6.30pm.

      Ensure an effective and efficient reception service is provided to patients and any other visitors to the practice

      Deal with all general enquiries, explain procedures and make new and follow-up appointments

      Using your own judgement and communication skills ensure that patients with no prior appointment but who need urgent consultation are seen in a logical and non-disruptive manner

      Explain practice arrangements and formal requirements to new patients and those seeking temporary cover and ensure procedures are completed

      Process repeat prescriptions requests and ensure that they are ready for collection by the patient within 24 hours, either on the computer or manually

      Enter patient information on the computer including all scanning of correspondence and sending to the clinical team for filing and coding

      Make and serve refreshments, ensure the kitchen is kept clean and tidy, ensure the waiting room is tidy in turn with other staff

      Ensure all new patients are registered onto the computer system promptly and accurately

      Undertake any other additional duties appropriate to the post as requested by the Partners, Practice Manager or Operations Manager.
