      Our office was founded based on a passion for immigrants' rights, providing impeccable representation to clients and making sure at each step that clients know how much we care. Each team member is here because they share this vision. Working with clients who have endured trauma and are facing overwhelming challenges takes an emotional toll and is something to be especially aware of given our paralegals are a primary point of contact for clients as we move their cases forward. We also promote identifying ways to not only take good care of ourselves but one another. To this end, we hold periodic group trauma training. We believe in creating and following proven systems and we are goal-oriented. When we work, we are organized and track our time. But we also value time away from work and promote a healthy work-life balance so that we can recharge and be at our best for clients and one another.

      Our paralegal is fluent in both written and spoken Spanish. They are a master at communicating strategically with clients, team members, and other collaborators understanding that this is a key to helping clients reach their goals most effectively. Our paralegal is empathetic and loves interacting with people from all backgrounds. Our paralegal engages with the legal team to understand the legal case strategies so we can set clients up to win their cases. Our paralegal will be charged with preparing applications to USCIS and the Immigration Court, including writing, forms, and supporting evidence. Our paralegal can diligently track time and work efficiently allowing the office to thrive while also allowing plenty of space for themselves to rest and recharge outside of work hours. Our paralegal is excited about the opportunity to grow with our office, and the possibility of expanding into new areas of casework.

      Responsibilities:

      1. Communicate effectively with clients throughout the duration of each case to ensure they are well-informed about the progress.
      2. Draft and prepare various types of correspondence for the Immigration Court and USCIS, such as motions and cover letters.
      3. Compile and organize application packets, including cover letters, forms, and supporting documents.
      4. Collaborate with the Legal Team to grasp the legal strategy for each case, aligning with client and team interests.
      5. Maintain detailed notes and memos to facilitate team understanding of past actions and future steps.
      6. Manage calendars and deadlines for paralegal tasks, attorneys, and other team members.
      7. Ensure files are up-to-date, organized, and attorneys are well-prepared at all stages of the case.
      8. Create clear and informative billable time entries to update clients on case progress.
      9. Achieve target casework hours and contribute to the office's efficiency by refining systems and procedures.

      Qualifications:

      1. Fluency in both spoken and written English and Spanish is an essential requirement for this role in Berkeley, CA, US.
      2. A college degree or a paralegal certificate is required.
      3. Demonstrated experience working as an Immigration Paralegal is necessary.
      4. Proficiency in Immigration court and removal defense filings and processes is crucial.
      5. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, are a must.
      6. The ability to communicate with empathy and warmth is highly valued.
      7. Confidence and strong organizational skills are key traits for this position.
      8. Adaptability and the ability to multitask effectively are essential.
      9. Strong attention to detail, particularly in grammar and spelling, is required.
      10. Proficiency in managing calendars and deadlines in a fast-paced environment is necessary.
      11. Knowledge of basic office programs such as email, calendaring, case management, and computer software is important.
      12. Efficient typing and computer skills are necessary.

      Bonus Skills/Experience:

      1. Experience in Customer Relations for 5+ years is a bonus.
      2. Understanding of business principles is advantageous.
      3. Fluency in languages beyond Spanish is a plus.
      4. Experience working remotely.

      Compensation:

      $25 - $34 hourly
