GARDEN HOST | JOB DESCRIPTION

SUMMARY

At Magnolia, the Garden Host is responsible for maintaining the gardens and landscapes of select Magnolia properties, as well as exhibiting excellent customer service through communicating best plant care and plant knowledge to guests visiting the Magnolia grounds . This position works from various locations in Waco, T exas . It reports to the Garden Manager and has no supervisory responsibilities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Uphold Magnolia's manifesto and values
• Participate in the landscaping and maintenance of Magnolia garden s
• Perform ground maintenance tasks such as preparing soil and planting beds, watering, weeding, pest control, and pruning
• Install new projects, including loading and unloading materials, preparing planters and planting areas, transplanting a variety of plants, and other related responsibilities
• Propagate plants of all types from cuttings, seeds, and plugs, and maintain care for young plants
• Monitor and treat plant health problems
• Operate power tools, hand tools, and various similar pieces of equipment
• Keep inventory and perform maintenance on tools and supplies
• Provide high levels of customer satisfaction through excellent service
• Maintain cleanliness and quality of work area
• Clean and maintain tools and equipment
• Perform work in a safe way, following all safety protocols
• Perform other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

• Hard skills: Knowledge of common trees, shrubs, perennials, annuals, climbers, herbs, vegetables, grasses, and bulbs and ability to demonstrate ; experience using gardening tools and powered landscaping equipment
• Soft skills: Ability to complete tasks independently or with a team without direct supervision, ability to multitask while maintaining a positive attitude to ensure excellent customer service, strong time management skills and ability to complete list of chores in logical and efficient manner
• Meticulous and detail-oriented with considerable attention to maintaining order and cleanliness
• Strong desire to assist customers in fulfilling their gardening and landscaping goals
• Education: High school diploma or GED equivalent required OR Bachelor’s degree in horticulture, landscape, architecture, or rel ated field from a 4-year college or university preferred
• Experience: 1-2 years of landscaping or gardening experience preferred

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands and arms to reach, handle, feel; utilize fine motor dexterity of fingers; talk or hear and taste or smell. The employee is frequently required to stand and walk. The employee is frequently required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. WORK ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is working outside and exposed to all weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
