      Position Summary::

      Overall, the position entails managing rotating equipment reliability at the Galveston Bay Refinery, which is the largest and most complex refinery in MPC’s system. This includes budgeting for planned equipment replacements, troubleshooting existing issues, implementing new solutions and creating new reliability programs targeting longer run-times, higher MTBF and safer operations. The position requires a large amount of teamwork and interfacing with all departments of the Galveston Bay Refinery.

      Key Responsibilities:

      Listed below are the main responsibilities of the Rotating Equipment Reliability Engineering position:

      • Provide technical assistance/troubleshooting assistance in resolving rotating equipment design, operation and maintenance problems; contact internal and external experts as required.
      • Monitor equipment health daily utilizing spectral analysis and Bentley Nevada System 1.
      • Utilize reliability tools such as Meridium Reliability Analytics, failure evaluations, and cost analysis to improve reliability of rotating equipment systems.
      • Write PRF’s for equipment upgrades including financial justification (life cycle cost analysis) and assist in DSP development.
      • Develop and review turnaround work lists and scopes for critical equipment.
      • Lead multi-department investigation teams to solve recurring rotating equipment failures.
      • Provide leadership and decision-making skills during turnarounds and unplanned equipment outages regarding repair solutions.
      • Provide technical expertise and support to capital project development
      • Display a commitment to training and continuous improvement through innovation
      • Periodically review of rotating equipment corporate specifications for potential improvement based on industry and site-specific experience
      • Help establish equipment monitoring plans and control limits.
      • Conduct post-audits to measure the effectiveness of significant reliability related projects and activities.
      • Develop cost justification for reliability improvement projects.
      • Support multiple Area Teams
      • Champion Management of Change for maintenance driven changes.
      • Ensure equipment repairs meet or exceed OEM specifications.
      • Experience with reciprocating/centrifugal compressors, special purpose condensing turbines, and System 1 is a plus.
      • Formal training in vibration analysis (Level 2 Analyst) and MLT (mechanical lubrication technician Level 1) is a plus
      • Provide technical expertise and training for maintenance crafts and operators to support our reliability programs.
      • Provide weekend coverage for the site for rotating equipment issues on a scheduled rotation

      Education and Experience:

      Minimum Requirements:

      • A B.S. Mechanical Engineering degree is required. (Education must be obtained/completed prior to start date)
      • Preferred experience with Rotating Equipment in the Refining/Petro-Chemical Industry.
      • A valid driver's license is required.
