      PRIMARY PURPOSE:
      To provide leadership, training, and technical assistance to GEAR UP campus personnel in program design and enhancement, restructuring, intervention and outreach for post-secondary education, and
      parental involvement. GEAR UP Facilitator will work with cohort group to increase post-secondary enrollment.


      REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
      Education/Certification:
      TEA certification requirements for secondary teacher
      Minimum of 3 years successful teaching experience in middle, high school or higher education Degree
      in counseling or counseling hours preferred
      Valid Texas Counseling Certificate preferred Bilingual/ESL certification preferred
      Experience/Special Knowledge:
      Experience coordinating tutoring and counseling/advising services
      Demonstrated understanding of characteristics and challenges of first-generation, economically
      disadvantaged students and their parents
      Advanced computer skills and able to utilize Instructional Technology Experience collecting,
      analyzing and interpreting data
      Experience with federally funded grant programs data
      Experience with budget planning and campus/district accounting policies
      Experience designing and implementing higher education awareness of academic support programs
      Broad understanding of college readiness and access programs (K-16 reform, admissions standards,
      and student financial aid)
      Excellent communication skills both in writing and verbally
      Knowledge of secondary school operations and structure; including curriculum and instruction,
      teaching and classroom management strategies, assessments and evaluation
      Ability to interpret policies and procedures

      MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
      • Serve as the liaison between UTRGV GEAR UP Project and the assigned campus.
      • Attend Project meetings and training as required by UTRGV GEAR UP Director.
      • Collect student, parent, and teacher service data and input into data management system.
      • Administer and collect student, parent, and teachers surveys annually.
      • Coordinate with UTRGV GEAR UP staff and in planning and implementing allowable services at the campus level that are aligned to Project objectives and objectives and outcomes with emphasis on rigorous courses, early preparation, college planning, testing, financial aid, and the importance of family involvement.
      • Develop a budget plan with campus administration, counseling department, and UTRGV GEAR UP staff to maximize GEAR UP funds for the benefit of all participants.
      • Provide GEAR UP awareness information to teachers, staff, and district office.
      • Recruit and train tutors: Coordinate tutoring services for GEAR UP students.
      • Plan, attend, and execute GEAR UP parental involvement activities at the campus.

      Plan and coordinate with UTRGV GEAR UP for professional development opportunities for teachers that are aligned with project objectives and outcomes.
      • Build community partnerships in areas of mentoring leadership development, career exploration, financial literacy, job shadowing and others critical areas to sustain the mission of GEAR UP beyond grant funding cycle.
      • Coordinate all aspects of the GEAR UP project.
      • Promote GEAR UP goals and objectives to students, parents, teachers, and other stakeholders.
      • Develop training materials and provide staff development for GEAR UP teachers, tutors, and parents.
      • Design curriculum, materials, and assessment instruments that facilitate instruction and document progress of GEAR UP cohort group.
      • Demonstrate effective teaching practices utilizing specialized materials and equipment.
      • Assist in the implementation of Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills, (TEKS), STAAR EOC, Texas Success Initiative Assessment (TSIA), Advanced Placement and other assessment instruments.
      • Meet with teachers and students regularly to monitor implementation of GEAR UP academic initiatives and maintain a campus wide calendar of events.
      • Coordinate implement, facilitate, and attend Gear Up related campus and district functions.
      • Maintain accurate and complete auditable documentation and Post Graduation data to Campus Principal and Central Office Administration.
      • Acquire knowledge and receive training to prepare students for institutions of higher learning.
      • Performs all duties in a safe manner to avoid injury to oneself and/or to others.
      • Perform other related duties as assigned by principal.
