Job Description

- Accession and catalogue archival collections
- Work with donors to secure information and transactions related archival donations.
- Work collaboratively to manage archival data in different systems and the within the archive database
- Work collaboratively to prepare archival materials for exhibition
- Work in collaboration with staff to oversee volunteers and interns
- Support preservation of archival material
- Prioritize cataloging activities related to migration of collections database and support metadata activities related to migration
- Create finding aids
- Prioritize archival collections and items for digitization
- Work collaboratively to implement digitization workflows
- Support digitization efforts to increase public-facing digital assets and metadata
- Records Management
- Assist with tasks and procedures related to the life cycle of institutional records, including transfer of materials to the archives, deaccessioning, and permanent retention in the institutional archives
- Complete special projects or additional duties as assigned, and consistent with the skills, training, level of responsibility and other requirements for this position
- Support annual institutional events, activities, VIP tours, and exhibition openings as needed
- 2-4 years’ experience working in Archives, library, or records management is required.
- Bachelor’s Degree in History, Museum Studies, Library Science, or a related field is required. Master’s degree preferred.
- Attention to detail and highly organized
- Self-motivated and performance-driven with ability to work both independently and in a team setting
- Strong written and oral communication
- Ability to prioritize multiple projects and tasks
- Proficient in using technology including databases (such as collections management systems); ability to evaluate and learn new software to support strategies for preserving and cataloging archival materials
- Knowledge of current archives standards and best practices and relevant guidelines pertaining to access and preservation
- Knowledge of collections standards and Museum Best Practices

Overview
The Museum Archivist is responsible for helping to manage and maintain archival collections and institutional records including accessioning, cataloguing and creating metadata, and creating finding aids for physical and digital materials. Additionally, the Archivist works to maintain the archive database, to organize the archive storage systems and to maintain accurate inventories, and the security of archival materials. The Archivist works collaboratively with Museum staff to support archive and library digital imaging activities such as: digitization, item-level descriptions and image cataloging, distribution of digital assets, and rights research.
Position Type:
This is a full-time, benefit eligible position that will work in-person at the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum in Cooperstown, NY. The salary range for this position is $37,000-45,000. Benefits associated with this position include health insurance, dental insurance, life insurance, medical/dental FSA, retirement, and paid time off (vacation, sick, holidays). This position reports to the VP of Museum Affairs.
