What to Expect (Job Responsibilities):
- Supervise CHEM 103 or 104 labs alongside a teaching or faculty assistant (3.25 hours per lab)
- Answer students' questions and offer guidance when appropriate
- Ensure safe laboratory practices are followed by students
- Prepare for laboratory sessions by reviewing lab materials and attending briefings
- Provide additional support as needed, such as emergency subbing or course material review
What is Required (Qualifications):
- Must be currently enrolled as a UW-Madison student for the Fall 2023 semester
- Undergraduate students majoring in chemistry, biochemistry, or chemical engineering are preferred, but students with a different major and strong chemistry background are encouraged to apply
- Completion of general chemistry (CHEM 104 or 109) with a grade of B or better
- Intermediate level courses in organic, analytical, and/or inorganic chemistry are a plus
- Minimum overall GPA of 3.00 required, with a GPA of 3.30 or higher strongly preferred
- In-person lab experience strongly preferred
- Availability to work during midterm weeks
- Second, third, or fourth year students preferred
How to Stand Out (Preferred Qualifications):
- 0-2 years of experience as a teaching assistant or lab assistant in a chemistry-related role
