Job Description

- Review investigation report to determine liability
- Review medical, legal, and miscellaneous invoices/demands related to a claim to determine whether reasonable and applicable to existing claim
- Negotiate any disputed bills for resolution within prescribed authority level
- Actively manage open claims files to ensure consistency and adequacy of reserves
- Establish initial loss reserves and periodically review/analyze for appropriateness
- Negotiate settlements with claimants, insurers, and attorneys within prescribed approval authority
- Identify potentially suspicious claims for opportunities of third-party subrogation and recovery
- Determine liability associated with division billable line breaks and seek recovery of such amounts
- Assist Administrator/General Liability Claims with collection activity associated with outside collection agencies/counsel
- Assist Administrator/General Liability Claims with filing and management of small claims actions
- Prepare and process payment authorizations for invoices and settlements related to the resolution of claims
- Analyze loss-run reports to identify opportunities to mitigate trends negatively impacting the Company
- Assist Administrator/General Liability Claims with MMSEA and other regulatory requirements as they relate to claims management
- Perform related duties and responsibilities as assigned
- Regular and predictable attendance is a condition of employment and is an essential function of the job
The General Liability Claims Adjuster is responsible for managing and settling general liability and vehicle accident claims both for and against the Company, within prescribed authority. Such claims may include property damage and/or bodily injury, and billable line breaks. This position is also responsible for management of claims files and collection efforts related to billable line breaks that occur within the Company’s five operating divisions and the resolution of such claims.
POSITION DIMENSIONS
The incumbent does not have direct accountability for people or budgets. The incumbent frequently exchanges information with claimants, non-exempt and professional level personnel, management, and numerous outside parties, including, but not limited to attorneys, outside consultants, collection agencies, and insurance companies.
QUALIFICATIONS
There are clear precedents and practices which the incumbent uses to determine how this job is performed. This position requires one to three years of relevant work experience. Good interpersonal, analytical, investigative, and negotiation skills are required.
A bachelor’s degree from an accredited university, an Associates in Claims (“AIC”) certification, or an Associates in Risk Management (“ARM”) certification is preferred.
