      Seeking a motivated and energetic genetic counselor to join a well-established cardiovascular genetics team. The successful applicant will join two cardiovascular genetic counselors (one associate professor and one senior level GC) within the Division of Cardiology at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital. Cardiovascular genetic counseling services are provided across the lifespan for a variety of indications including cardiomyopathy, arrhythmia, aortopathy, dyslipidemia, congenital heart disease and more. Patients are seen in collaboration with multidisciplinary teams like the Fetal Heart Program, Cardiovascular Genetics Clinic and Familial Heart Rhythm Clinic and independently in the Cardiology Genetic Counseling Clinic (primarily telehealth). There are multiple opportunities for expanding clinical services and service delivery models throughout Ohio and surrounding states. There is a strong cardiovascular genetic counseling research program with opportunities for mentorship and collaborations across the division and institution including the Heart Institute Research Core, Heart Institute Data Repository, Discover Together Biobank, Genetics Diagnostic Laboratories, and University of Cincinnati Genetic Counseling Graduate Program.


      REPRESENTATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES

      ·Client Care
      Act as the liaison for clients. Obtain and/or evaluate the medical histories of a client to determine the risk for genetic or medical conditions and diseases. Discuss with a client the features, natural history, means of diagnosis, genetic and environmental factors, and management of risk for genetic or medical conditions and diseases. Identify and/or coordinate genetic laboratory tests and other diagnostic studies as appropriate for genetic assessment. Integrate the results of genetic laboratory tests and other diagnostic tests with individual and family medical histories. Explain to a client the clinical implications of the results of genetic laboratory tests and other diagnostic tests. Evaluate the response of a client to one or more genetic conditions or the risk of reoccurrence and provide counseling and guidance. Identify and/or use community resources that provide medical, educational, financial, and psychosocial support and advocacy. Provide medical, genetic, and counseling information to clients.
      ·Core skills
      Demonstrates positive leadership skills in area of expertise. Provide advanced genetic counseling services in an area of expertise in the conduct of healthcare. Demonstrate a significant leadership role within the division, organization, and / or regionally in genetic counseling services.
      ·Research
      The genetic counselor will lead divisional and / or institutional research including serving as a primary research advisor to University level students, first or last author of presented abstracts, and authoring peer-reviewed publications.
      ·Service
      The genetic counselor will lead and execute organizational service activities such as local community health events, quality improvement projects, and divisional / organizational projects and/or contribute significantly to the planning and execution of regional / national service activities.
      ·Education
      The genetic counselor will provide independent supervision, education, and course instruction for students at the University level, residents, and fellows. Develop and organize trainee / staff rotations. Provide genetics-related lectures at organizational or regional meetings and / or coordinate regional educational series. Contribute to text book content.

      EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE


      For Genetic Counselor I:
      Masters degree in related field. May require clinical license, certification or training
      No directly related experience
      Ohio Genetic Counseling License; Certified/eligible for certification by the ABMG or ABGC

      For Genetic Counselor II:
      Masters degree in related field. May require clinical license, certification or training
      2 years of work experience in a related job discipline
      Ohio Genetic Counseling Licenses; Certification through the ABGC

      For Genetic Counselor III:
      Masters degree in related field. May require clinical license, certification or training
      Ohio Genetic Counseling Licenses; Certification through the ABGC
      5+ years of work experience in a related job discipline.


      Unique Skills:
      A strong commitment to excellence in education and graduate training is also required. Applicants with emerging or established research agendas in cardiovascular genetics and genetic counseling preferred. Seeking individuals of all experience levels with a strong interest in cardiovascular genetics and related clinical genetic counseling services and research.
