Under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse, the GI Lab Technician will assume the responsibility of assisting the RN in preparation of patients, transporting patients, and assisting the physician with all GI endoscopic procedures. Responsible for assuring appropriate decontamination, testing, and sterilization of equipment/instrumentation used in GI endoscopy procedures. Cleans and decontaminates endoscopes and all applicable channels according to the manufacturer's Instructions For Use (IFU). Sterilizes endoscopes utilizing appropriate quick connects and validated sterilization cycle parameters. Performs high-level disinfection of endoscopes when indicated, following established protocols. Handles and stores endoscopes properly to prevent damage and maintain sterility. Sterilization Equipment Monitoring & Maintenance:Completes diagnostic testing, chemical, and biological monitoring at prescribed intervals on sterilization equipment.
