Intermediate level professional position in the Environmental Services Department under general direction of the GIS Administrator requiring considerable knowledge of analytical processes related to manipulating Geographical Information Systems to support the department's water, wastewater and solid waste system operations. Creates and changes map and data layers, performs quality assurance & quality control on data, conducts routine geospatial analysis and reports, and provides intermediate level technical support / problem resolution for GIS system users and internal/external customers.Assists in automating GIS data creation, conversion, geo-processing, and advanced cartographic map design and production. Compiles, analyzes, plans and programs to provide solutions. Analyzes and represents complex geospatial data in maps and assists in the development of models, methods and procedures to automate routine spatial analysis. Prepares customized output products such as maps (e.g., paper, electronic, web maps), reports, charts, graphs, and tables.
Performs GIS data Quality Assurance and Quality Control (QA/QC). Organizes and audits metadata and prepares systems standard specifications and documentation for new data features. Assists in planning, coordinating, & integrating GPS technology and mobile applications to improve the spatial accuracy of data used for the sanitary and water utilities infrastructure, writes & develops procedures for data collection, verifies download of information and integration with existing records, and ensures accuracy of data.
Provides guidance and customer support to GIS users and provides training for custom GIS applications. Assists in providing production-specific direction, specialized training and quality control of work of interns, temporary and other contracted or assigned personnel working on the City's GIS database. Participate on technical teams for GIS groups as directed for special projects involving county interests, develop special GIS maps and analysis using GIS data for special reports, presentations and intergovernmental proposals. May supervise GIS Technicians.
(Performs Related Duties AS Required)Associate degree in GIS or closely related field with 4 years of relevant GIS work experience or education, training and/or experience in an amount equal to the minimum qualifications stated above. Must have current valid driver's license with acceptable driving record.
