The purpose of the Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Internship program is to provide students of graduate and undergraduate GIS related studies with professional GIS experience in a public sector organization. This internship position supports the citywide GIS from the Information Systems (IS) department. This program is intended to provide part-time employment in the GIS field. Upon the student’s graduation and completion of the GIS internship program, the student should have received adequate training and experience necessary for an entry-level GIS job. This position reports to the GIS Analyst and the Solutions Manager.GIS intern is expected to perform entry-level work involving GIS data creation and maintenance in an ESRI ArcGIS environment.


Assist in data clean up and data quality testing.


Assist in producing printed and virtual maps for stakeholders.


Assist in troubleshooting stakeholders issues and training.


Assist with creating and updating project documents and instructions.


Perform other related tasks as assigned.


Careful review and attention to detail is a must.


Study toward or a degree in Geography, Geographic Information Systems, or other related field. Experience in ArcGIS applications is required. Must have effective time management and demonstrated ability to meet project timelines and goals with minimal supervision.
