- Uses ArcGIS and asset management software to maintain current and accurate geographic information and attribute data for City-owned infrastructure.
- Collects and assesses data of current condition for City assets in the field with handheld GPS devices or verifying and updating attribute information for City assets on a desktop computer.
- Utilizes Arc GIS and asset management software to create and update complex maps and/or performs complex spatial analyses to provide decision support related to the Municipal Services Department and various other departments within the City of Lenexa.
- Designs, implements and maintains GIS data collection processes and applications to support asset management.
- Maintains the geographic database (both graphic and non-graphic) for the Asset Management System. This may be accomplished by digitizing, data translation from other graphic and non-graphic sources such as AutoCAD, digital data collectors, database files, officially approved plans or interpreting and researching legal documents. Evaluates data set accuracy and follows through with possible corrective actions.

Position Summary
The GIS Technician performs technical work in developing and maintaining data in the City of Lenexa's Asset Management and GIS systems, working closely with Municipal Services staff. This position is responsible for creating and maintaining the Geographic Information System (GIS) data and cartographic output of the Infrastructure Asset Management System. Work is performed with considerable latitude to exercise independent judgment and action in supporting the development, maintenance and application of the City's GIS and Asset Management Systems.

Qualifications
Minimum qualifications: Bachelor's degree in geography, GIS, cartography, civil engineering, computer science or related field, OR 2-3 years experience and training in GIS software (preferably ESRI ArcGIS) and necessary hardware.
Environmental and Physical Factors
This position requires the ability to collect asset information in an outdoor setting. The position will frequently require the ability to traverse and work on uneven terrain and in various weather conditions. Mobility is also required to work at computer stations located throughout the City. Other requirements include the ability to sit for prolonged periods; the ability and strength to lift and move up to 25 lbs.; and visual acuity to review alphanumeric data.
Compensation & Benefits
