      JOB SUMMARY

      The GIS/CAD Technician is responsible for the preparation and maintenance of clear, complete and accurate GIS and CAD drawings, including new construction, station, operating maps and standards drawings, utilizing Computer-Aided Drafting (CAD) and Geographic Information System (GIS) software. The GIS/CAD Technician is also responsible for the development and maintenance of the Geographic Information System (GIS) and Outage Management System (OMS).

      MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

      The essential responsibilities of the job include but are not necessarily restricted to the following:

      • Produce and revise electrical and associated civil engineering drawings, GIS baseplan and as-built plant records in accordance with Hydro Ottawa drafting and engineering standards.

      • Produce construction drawings for new residential, commercial, overhead, communication and civil underground projects. Produce and maintain system records and attributes within the GIS for the purposes of outage management, planning and records management.

      • Develop and maintain schematic and operating maps for overhead and underground distribution and sub-transmission systems.

      • Produce and revise standards drawings and custom details.

      • Produce facility station and architectural drawings.

      • Maintain substation digital filing system to ensure drawings are accurate and up-to-date.

      • Maintain streetlight records in the GIS system and third party attachments.

      • Assist in the development of Hydro Ottawa GIS and drafting standards.

      • Update record databases to ensure accuracy and integrity.

      • Maintain hard copy and digital records.

      • Plot drawings as required or prepare drawings for issue to an external printing contractor; distribute internally or externally printed drawings.

      • Coordinate with internal clients and communicate with external consultants, municipal agencies and other utilities.

      • Assist with training as required.

      • Prepare and deliver oral presentations.

      • Order drafting and printing supplies, and arrange printer/plotter service calls.

      • Perform field work as required.

      • Compile data from Engineering staff, consultants, and internal archives to ensure GIS records are accurate, relevant and current.

      • Generate accurate as-built drawings for permanent record.

      • Develop and maintain the GIS and OMS systems.

      • Receive, convert and maintain digital landbase mapping, including topographic, cadastral, easements and central registry information.

      • Create and maintain SCADA system based drawings.

      • Prepare custom thematic maps.

      • Participate in GIS data conversion programs.

      • Collect and process global positioning system (GPS) data.

      • Perform other related duties as required.

      EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

      • Post-secondary education in a technical discipline, preferably in a Geographic Information System (GIS), civil engineering, or cartographic field.

      • Experience using computer-aided drafting software.

      • Experience developing or maintaining a GIS or digital mapping system.

      ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

      • English essential, both oral and written.

      • Bilingual (French/English) considered an asset.

      • Valid drivers’ license - Class G.

      The terms and conditions of employment for this position are governed by the collective agreement between Hydro Ottawa Limited and IBEW Local 636.

      Hydro Ottawa offers a Hybrid Work Model. Hybrid work is position specific, the details of which the hybrid model will be discussed with successful candidates.

      $54,551.90

      Pay Range Maximum:

      $83,807.10
