      Position Type: Full-Time, 12 Months

      Hours : 8:00 AM - 3:30 PM

      Position Overview

      Codman Academy Charter Public School is seeking a passionate and skilled Literacy Specialist to support students in grades K-8 in developing their reading, writing, and literacy skills. This part-time position is ideal for an educator with a strong background in literacy instruction, a commitment to academic excellence, and the ability to support diverse learners. The Literacy Specialist will provide targeted interventions to help students strengthen their literacy skills, with a focus on English Language Learners (ELLs), and collaborate with classroom teachers to integrate literacy strategies across the curriculum. SEI Endorsement is required for this position.

      Key Responsibilities

      Literacy Instruction and Support

      • Provide small group and one-on-one literacy interventions to students in grades 9-12, focusing on reading comprehension, writing, and language development.

      • Develop and implement targeted literacy lessons and activities that address the specific needs of students, including English Language Learners (ELLs).

      • Collaborate with classroom teachers to integrate literacy strategies into content-area instruction, ensuring that students are supported across subjects.

      • Support students with differentiated literacy instruction based on individual student needs, including academic language and reading challenges.

      • Monitor student progress in literacy and provide feedback to students and families on academic development.

      Collaboration and Professional Development

      • Work closely with the English department and other content-area teachers to design and implement a cohesive literacy curriculum.

      • Provide coaching and support for teachers in best practices for literacy instruction, particularly for English Language Learners.

      • Participate in professional development opportunities focused on literacy instruction, SEI (Sheltered English Immersion) strategies, and best practices for ELL support.

      • Attend staff meetings and collaborate with colleagues to share strategies, discuss student progress, and address instructional needs.

      Assessment and Data-Driven Instruction

      • Use formative and summative assessments to track student progress in literacy and adjust instruction accordingly.

      • Analyze student data to identify literacy gaps and develop targeted action plans for student growth.

      • Support students with test preparation for standardized assessments, with an emphasis on literacy-based exams.

      Student and Family Engagement

      • Build strong relationships with students, fostering a positive and supportive learning environment.

      • Communicate regularly with students and families regarding student progress, providing suggestions for home-based support and resources.

      • Support families in understanding literacy development and strategies to help their children succeed academically.

      Qualifications & Experiences

      Required

      • Bachelor’s degree in education, literacy, or a related field.

      • SEI (Sheltered English Immersion) Endorsement is required.

      • At least 2 years of experience teaching literacy or English Language Arts

      • Strong knowledge of literacy instruction techniques, including those designed for English Language Learners.

      • Familiarity with assessment tools and data analysis to inform instructional practices.

      • Ability to work collaboratively with teachers, students, and families.

      • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.

      • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor to support student learning and the overall success of Codman Academy.

      Preferred

      • Master’s degree in literacy, special education, or a related field.

      • Experience in differentiating instruction for students with diverse learning needs.

      • Familiarity with culturally responsive teaching practices.

      • Experience working with English Language Learners (ELLs) and developing strategies to support language development.

      • Certified in the Orton-Gillingham

      Salary Range: Based on CACPS scale
