OVERVIEW The Global Commodities Market Insights Manager is responsible for building best-in-class macro and commodity market intelligence for use across General Mills’ Sourcing teams and global businesses. This role will bring deep expertise on a variety of commodities markets which could include animal protein, wheat, corn, oilseeds, and energy for use in our derivative and cash contracting strategy development. Additionally, this newly created role will drive process rigor on insights delivery and decision-making within our category teams to feed our monthly COGS estimation process. The Global Commodities Market Insights Manager will also be responsible for advancing market insights as a capability for our Pet segment, as well as support key executive communication activities such as monthly business communications and preparation for quarterly earnings call releases. The position reports into the Director, Commodities Risk Management, Market Insights, and Communications. ** This role is remote eligible, however a candidate local to Minneapolis, MN or willing to relocate is preferred** KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES Market Analysis: Analyze, interpret, and forecast key direct materials markets, which could include Animal Proteins, Grains, Oilseeds, Soft Commodities, Dairy, or Energy Conduct category market analysis including fundamentals (supply/demand) and price forecasting Collaborate closely with three other analysts on the team; Bring thought leadership and independent analysis to the team’s market discussions Coverage Strategies and Decision Support: Provide category insights and coverage recommendations to Sr. Portfolio Manager and North American Commodity Portfolio team in support of hedging strategy and execution Support the assumptions for Sourcing’s monthly COGS estimation process by highlighting key market risks and opportunities Provide market strip data to category teams for key financial processes including inflation guidance and annual budget cycles Understand key cost drivers of the key global categories and how the underlying commodity dynamics influence total cost management Summarize market indicators into insights for executive/C-suite level communications Process Leadership Establish a repeatable rhythm, cadence, and process for bi-weekly category/market reviews including fundamental overview, price forecasting, and links to category financial assumptions Act as the market intelligence liaison for the Pet Segment. Develop the market insights capability with intelligence specific to animal protein and other grains markets External Perspective Interface with a variety of internal and external stakeholders to build a category intelligence network that integrates published data sources at the global and regional levels with ‘on the ground’ insights from suppliers and other industry participants including brokers, distributors, analysts, etc. Integrate data analytics from external market information providers (Bloomberg, Data Monitor, etc.) MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIREMENT Bachelor’s Degree - Supply Chain Management or General Business, Economics, Mathematics, Data Science Strong commodity market analysis experience with ability to bring thought leadership, challenge ideas, and clearly support views with data Experience with both commodities futures and cash markets Succinct, clear synthesis of analysis into summary level insights to drive business decisions Independent thinker and healthy debater Strong financial acumen across markets, category cost models, and macroeconomic indicators Ability to design standard process and drive adherence to ways of working PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Master’s Degree - Supply Chain Management or General Business, Economics, Mathematics, Data Science Risk Management experience (hedging / use of financial derivatives)\ Experience with cash grain markets Experience in animal protein markets Food industry/CPG experience DEVELOPMENT CANDIDATE WILL RECEIVE IN THE ROLE Category analysis techniques and approaches Influencing and thought leadership Establishing strategies, direction and priorities Driving results and repeatable success by leveraging standard processes, tools, and systems Managing external partnerships and relationships ADDITIONAL CONSIDERATIONS International relocation or international remote working arrangements (outside of the US) will not be considered. Salary Range The salary range for this position is $121700.00 - $182700.00 / Annually. At General Mills we strive for each employee's pay at any point in their career to reflect their experiences performance and skills for their current role. The salary range for this role represents the numerous factors considered in the hiring decisions including, but not limited to, educations, skills, work experience, certifications, etc. As such, pay for the successful candidate(s) could fall anywhere within the stated range.
