      Under the general supervision of the Golf Course Superintendent, performs skilled mechanical work of above average difficulty and responsibility related to the maintenance and repair of golf course turf maintenance equipment at the City’s two (2) Golf Courses. Incumbent possesses the sophisticated knowledge and skill in the performance of mechanical tasks involving general repair, maintenance, and servicing of turf maintenance equipment, and is capable of exercising good judgement and individual initiative in handling routine work and special assignments. Work is reviewed through reports, records, and the mechanical performance of the turf maintenance equipment. Performs other work as required.
      • Inspects, diagnoses, and repairs all golf course and turf maintenance equipment and golf carts.
      • Performs skilled mechanical work of above average difficulty.
      • Rebuilds and reconditions equipment when warranted.
      • Schedules and performs preventative maintenance requirements on all golf course turf maintenance equipment.
      • Orders and purchases parts needed for repairs, and maintains necessary inventory levels of essential spares.
      • Identify replacement parts and materials using manuals, parts lists, and other references.
      • Troubleshoot equipment problems and failures.
      • Operation of drill press, reel grinder (to including relief grinding), various electric, gas, pneumatic, and hand tools, oxy/acetylene torch, and welders.
      • Sets height adjustments on all mowing equipment.
      • Sharpens all mowing equipment, both rotary and reel mowers.
      • Makes diagnoses and repairs to hydraulic systems of turf maintenance equipment.
      • Performs housekeeping duties, to include parts storage, equipment storage, building and grounds.
      • Maintains all equipment records, to include repairs, usage, and preventative maintenance.
      • Performs other duties as assigned or required.
      • High school diploma or GED (Proof of education must be uploaded with application).
      • Three (3) years of work experience in the repair and/or maintenance of landscaping or automotive equipment repair/service work.

      Licenses, Certifications or Registrations:
      • Requires State of Florida driver’s license. Applicants who possess a valid out of state driver’s license must obtain the Florida driver’s license within 10 days of employment.
      • Knowledge of advanced mechanical repair skills.
      • Knowledge of, and skill in using sophisticated tools, equipment, and methods of turf maintenance equipment.
      • Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trade.
      • Knowledge of the repair of both small and large engines either gasoline or diesel fueled.
      • Ability to diagnose, locate, define, adjust and/or repair major defects in turf maintenance, and to make necessary repairs within time limits recognized as industry standards.
      • Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
      • Ability to maintain accurate and complete work order records and to concisely record time, parts, and other pertinent information.
      • Ability to respond to mechanical emergencies at any time.


      Physical and Mental Requirements:
      • Ability to operate motor vehicles (i.e., pick-up, vans, etc.); load or unload vehicles with objects weighing no more than 75 pounds in a safe and efficient manner.
      • Ability to hear and understand conversation in a normal tone of voice. Use of senses, which include sight, smell, hearing and touch as aids in the evaluation and troubleshooting of malfunctioning equipment.
      • Ability to see and read letters, numbers, words, characters, or symbols which are both large and small, as well as identify colors.
      • Ability to print and draw letters, numbers, words, characters, and symbols which are legible and understood by others.
      • Ability to use small hand tools which require the use of hands, wrists, and fingers.
      • Ability to move back and forth and sideways while in a bending, kneeling, or squatting position.
      • Ability to stay in a bending, kneeling, or squatting position for periods less than 10 minutes.
      • Ability to go from a standing or sitting position to a bending, kneeling, or squatting position, or vice-versa, periodically.
      • Ability to learn complex tasks and remember how to complete tasks without assistance once trained.
      • Ability to walk, stand, and sit for periods longer than 30.
      • Ability to walk continuously for more than 5 minutes at a time throughout the working day.
      • Ability to stand in a stationary position for more than 30 minutes at a time. May need to remain seated for more than 30 minutes at a time.
      • Ability to lift, carry, push and pull items which weigh up to 75 pounds over uneven terrain, up/down stairs or ladders.
      • Ability to carry items for a distance which ranges from 10 feet to no more than 300 yards.
      • Ability to lift and/or carry items which are considered awkward to grasp or hold on to.
      • Ability to lift items (weighing less than 40 pounds) above the head or down from over the head.
      • Ability to hold items (weighing 1 to 10 pounds) for a period less than 10 minutes.
      • Ability to work in dimly lit conditions as necessary and during inclement weather.
      • Ability to work in confined spaces frequently.
      • Ability to work in undesirable conditions including dust, dirt, fuel fumes, lubricants, and cleaning solvents.
