      POSITION SUMMARY

      Trout Unlimited is seeking a Government Affairs Intern who will aid DC staff in developing and communicating policies that support the organization’s mission to bring together diverse interests to care for and recover rivers and streams so our children can experience the joy of wild and native trout and salmon. Government Affairs Interns will learn about how Trout Unlimited advocates for coldwater fisheries in Washington D.C., and will contribute to our work by creating education materials, attending meetings and hearings, and engaging with Congressional and federal administration staff, as well as regional Trout Unlimited staff and grassroots volunteers. The role will be a hybrid in-office/virtual position. Exact start and end dates may vary, but generally will run from late May through early August.

      Requirements

      DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES· Create education materials to convey the importance and efficacy of Trout Unlimited’ s on-the-ground conservation work. · Attend hearings and meetings to report back summaries to appropriate TU staff, and develop an understanding of the legislative process, and how Trout Unlimited advances conservation policy.· Work with key TU staff and volunteers across the country.· The position will report to TU’s VP of Government Affairs.

      Requirements

      · A passion for conservation and a strong desire to understand environmental policy.· Attending and undergraduate or graduate university and working on a natural resources or related program degree.· Ability to work with multiple and diverse partners in a highly collaborative and inclusive manner, even on contentious issues.· Exceptional interpersonal skills.· Strong analytical skills.· Ability to problem solve and think creatively to achieve a conservation mission.· Excellent written and oral communication skills.· Strong organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail.· Self-motivated and highly energetic, with excellent time-management skills.· Ability to manage multiple deadlines simultaneously.· Passion for trout and salmon and the places they live.How to Apply:Please upload a resume to TU’s applicant system by clicking on the link below
