Support the execution and development of Citi’s advocacy strategy at senior level with UK policymakers including HM Treasury, Department for Business and Trade, Parliament, Scottish Parliament, Northern Ireland Assembly and with other key institutions and bodies
Manage the UK policymaker engagement plan, achieving its objectives, including optimizing the use of Citi’s key trade associations and other membership bodies
Build a network of relationships with key government and institutional policymakers, industry associations, think tanks and other key stakeholders
Support Citi’s efforts to monitor and analyse the UK General Election of 2024, (and other relevant future elections), keeping internal stakeholders updated and adapting Citi UK’s policymaker engagement and advocacy strategy accordingly
Support the development of Citi UK’s response to public policy across all relevant topics, in collaboration with business, legal and regulatory engagement subject matter experts.
Manage and regularly update Citi’s UK policy book, write talking points and prepare briefing materials for Citi senior executive meetings with UK policymakers, under supervision of Head of UK Government Affairs
Support policymaker engagement and advocacy strategy for Citi Belfast
Lead across UK and EU on a particular area of policy that impacts Citi (eg prudential regulation, capital markets, data, payments, AML, sustainability), creating written materials, developing and executing advocacy strategy in Brussels and other EU capitals, liaising with internal colleagues and trade associations
Write and send timely internal updates on political and policy developments
Attend policymaker, trade association and other external meetings as a representative of Citi and in support of Citi seniors
Appropriately assess risk when business decisions are made, demonstrating particular consideration for the firm's reputation and safeguarding Citigroup, its clients and assets, by driving compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations, adhering to Policy, applying sound ethical judgment regarding personal behaviour, conduct and business practices, and escalating, managing and reporting control issues with transparency
Strategic thinking combined with accuracy and attention to detail and the ability to achieve results
Excellent oral and written communication skills in English – additional language skills an advantage
Ability to navigate the political, legislative and regulatory environment in the UK required, and desirable in relation to the EU
Ability to understand and assess the likely implications of political, policy and regulatory matters on Citi’s business
Knowledge of financial services and related policy issues that will impact Citi and its clients desirable
Advanced research skills to find, analyze and present information from a variety of credible sources, to provide timely, high-quality internal and external briefings
Strong interpersonal skills to build and maintain productive internal and external relationships, at all levels, including gaining respect and trust of seniors
A self-starter who can work with limited supervision, but also collaborate effectively with colleagues as part of local, regional and global teams
A highly organized, energetic and efficient individual able to multi-task, prioritize, meet short deadlines and achieve outcomes
An ability to master complex and technical issues quickly and to communicate them succinctly to others
Willingness to travel to European destinations
A suitable level of experience working in government, industry associations, regional or global organizations, multilaterals or NGOs on policy issues
Experience managing projects and issues
Bachelors degree, potentially Masters degree, in a relevant area (e.g., finance, political science, government, economics, commerce, or law)
This role will support Citi’s advocacy and political engagement in the UK as well as Citi’s advocacy efforts across the Europe region. As part of Citi’s Government Affairs team based in London, the role supports the UK Head of Government Affairs in managing Citi’s engagement with UK policymakers and in developing and executing the Government Affairs strategy.
The successful candidate will keep abreast of political, legislative, and regulatory developments in the key policy areas that Citi follows and will provide insights and analysis to Citi’s UK businesses, corporate functions and UK leadership, helping to assess the impact of potential actions on Citi and its clients. The successful candidate will also serve as a pan UK and EU lead on a particular area of policy that impacts Citi, such as prudential regulation, capital markets, data, payments, AML or sustainability or others.
