      Job summary

      East Street Surgery is a well-established Practice in North Southwark with excellent road links. We are looking for a part-time GP at 4-6 sessions per week to cover maternity until April 2026 who is:

      • Enthusiastic, proactive and forward-thinking
      • Involvement in QOF and population management to achieve high targets
      • Our Practice aim is to deliver a high standard of compassionate care to all our patients of all ages and of a mixed demographic population
      • Flexible and a good team worker taking active part in the practice daily life including practice meetings and education programmes.

      Main duties of the job

      In accordance with the practice timetable, as agreed, the post-holder will undertake clinical sessions which is normally composed of face-to-face appointments together with telephone appointments, followed by a variety of duties including:

      • Conducting physical examinations, tests or procedures to diagnose patients
      • Good understanding and experience of chronic disease management and primary prevention making recommendations for lifestyle changes to improve the patients quality of life
      • Management of referrals, prescription, lab reports; clinical letters
      • Resolving clinical queries including medical reports;
      • Home visits.

      • List size of nearly 7000 patients, 2 GP Partners, 2 Salaried GPs,
      • 1.5 Practice Nurses, 8 admin/reception staff
      • We have moved to a high-tech, newly-purpose-built building at Harold Moody Health Centre
      • EMIS Web / Docman / T-Quest
      • Fully engaged with our GP Federation and Southwark ICB with excellent working relationship with other local practices in our neighbourhood

      Job description

      Job responsibilities

      You will be required to:

      • Provide all GP services required as part of the PMS contract held between the practices and the commissioning primary care agency, including all core services such as Child Health Surveillance
      • Undertake Duty Doctor and GP paperwork duties (prescriptions, referrals, lab results, clinical letters via Docman)
      • Respond to medical problems presented by patients, including history taking, examination, investigation, diagnosis, treatment, and referral where appropriate.
      • Provide appropriate preventative health care and advice.
      • Provide medical support as required to patients referred by nursing staff
      • Act upon most alerts ie. QOF and reminders during a routine consultation i.e. 10 minutes.
      • Provide free certification in line with Schedule 9 of NHS GMS Regulations (1992).
      • Adhere to any practice prescribing formulary, local and national guidelines.
      • Make professional, autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems, whether self-referred or referred from other health care workers within the organisation;
      • Record clear and contemporaneous I.T. based consultation notes to agreed standards;
      • Collect data for audit purposes;
      • Compile and issue computer-generated acute and repeat prescriptions (avoiding hand-written prescriptions whenever possible);
      • In general, the post-holder will be expected to undertake all the normal duties and responsibilities associated with a GP working within primary care.

      Other responsibilities with the Practice:

      • Engaging in appropriate lifelong educational and audit activity to maintain clinical competence and performance, including the completion of objectives agreed by you and the practice, in an annual Personal Development Plan. Your Personal Development Plan must be in line with the Practice Development Plan.
      • Actively participating in the training and development of nurses, medical students, and GP trainees in the future.
      • Supporting the practice staff and responding to requests for advice and assistance from the practice reception, admin and nursing staff.
      • Attend prescribing, palliative care, clinical and practice meetings.
      • You will be expected to take part in clinical meetings, be prepared to chair these and present clinical topics as required for the maintenance of educational standards and high-quality care. You will receive feedback from the partners via peer review and to act upon recommendations and demonstrate change
      • Undertake additional training where necessary to provide these enhanced services
      • Awareness of and compliance with all relevant practice policies/guidelines, e.g., prescribing, confidentiality, data protection, health and safety, annual QOF Assessment of the Practice.
      • Participate in meeting tight timescales/deadlines for audits and written returns to ensure that the Practice meets quality standards and receives the designated funding (e.g., Locally Enhanced Service returns, annual QOF audit etc.)
