      THE POSITION:

      The Grant Accountant collaborates closely with the Director of Contract and Grant Finance, ensuring precise submission of diverse grant invoices. This tactical role involves engaging with program staff and the accounting team to ensure accurate reporting and payments while aligning financial aspects with program requirements. With a deep understanding of public contract requirements, the Grant Accountant validates expenses, ensures grant compliance, and strategically maximizes funding utilization. This tactical approach adheres to industry standards, emphasizing precision in financial reporting and optimizing grant resources for effective outcomes. The Grant Accountant serves as a key contributor to the success and sustainability of grant initiatives.

      WHAT YOU’LL DO:

      BILLING

      • Effectively handle the entire grant billing and invoicing process, ensuring accuracy and resolving discrepancies collaboratively.
      • Review, process, and record A/R Billing invoices with precision.
      • Maintain compliance with GAAP, Federal Grant management practices, and relevant regulations.
      • Adhere to funder requirements and strict deadlines for invoice preparation and submission.
      • Collaborate across departments to identify and address discrepancies in billing.
      • Capture missing or incorrect support documents to ensure billing accuracy.

      REPORTING & MONTH END ITEMS

      • Ensure timely and accurate documentation for expenditure reimbursement in accordance with contract requirements.
      • Provide comprehensive review and oversight of invoicing/reporting processes.
      • Ensure strict compliance with relevant regulations and internal controls.
      • Accurately book reimbursement requests in the agency's accounting system.
      • Contribute to the month-end closing process with precision and attention to detail.
      • Conduct monthly reconciliations of general ledger accounts for accurate expense capture in monthly billing.
      • Maintain detailed Accounts Receivable tracking worksheets.
      • Generate insightful reports on receivable account performance.
      • Manage a portion of LAHSA/DHS account/subcontractors’ monthly invoices.
      • Monitor, analyze, and maintain financial transactions for social service programs.
      • Conduct monthly Accounts Receivable reconciliations with precision.

      COMPLIANCE

      • Update fiscal schedules related to accounts receivable.
      • Track revenues and expenditures and assist in Private Funds spenddown.
      • Collaborate and support Sr. Grants Accountants and Finance leadership on special projects.
      • Contribute to the preparation of required internal and external financial reports.
      • Identify and communicate grant-related issues promptly with the grant manager.
      • Collaborate effectively with agencies/partners/funders to ensure compliance.
      • Prepare detailed backup documentation for all grant submissions.

      OTHER

      • Additional tasks, projects, and responsibilities as assigned by supervisor

      WHAT YOU’RE SKILLED AT:

      • In-depth knowledge of general accounting principles, including federal, state, and grant reporting procedures, cost accounting, compliance, and audit practices
      • Expertise in contract/grant administration and monitoring for effective oversight and management
      • Familiarity with federal, state, and relevant laws, rules, and regulations related to grant and contract administration to ensure compliance
      • Specialized proficiency in reporting requirements and procedures for meticulous preparation of accounting records and financial statements
      • Exceptional ability to interpret contracts, requirements, policies, and procedures associated with grants while ensuring compliance
      • Proficient in compiling and analyzing data, with the capacity to prepare insightful summary status reports
      • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills for effective decision-making and strategic financial management
      • Excellent communication skills, including active listening and proficiency in both written and verbal communication
      • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and strong computer literacy are required
      • Exceptional multitasking and organizational skills are imperative
      • Ability to work independently and in a team environment with a customer service mindset

      OTHER:

      • Maintain and execute confidential information according to HIPAA standards
      • Obtain and maintain CPR/First Aid Certification
      • Ability to pass post-offer Tuberculosis (TB) clearances
      • Travel is a regular duty for this position and is required 5% of the time
      • Use of a personal vehicle to travel between worksites and other locations is required
      • Must have and maintain a valid Driver’s License and auto insurance in good standing
      • Ability to work a 9/80 work schedule
      • Ability to work a hybrid work from home schedule
      • Ability to sit for prolong periods of time

      WHAT YOU’VE ACCOMPLISHED:

      • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, public administration, or a related field is preferred. Education can be substituted for years of experience.
      • Minimum of three years of specialized experience in data management, grant accounting, and reporting, preferably in a non-profit setting within Los Angeles County.
      • Previous hands-on experience with non-profit and government grants.
      • Experience with NetSuite or similar software applications highly desired.
      • Demonstrated working knowledge of accounting practices is necessary.
