Job Summary: The Grants Associate (GA) is an integral member of the Public Grants Team (PBGT). The GA manages a portfolio of public grants (city, county, and state) that align with Virginia Garcia’s Strategic Plan, overseeing all aspects of proposal development and submission. In addition, the GA oversees the portfolio’s implementation of grant agreements, contracts, and cooperative agreements; provides technical assistance to Health Center staff supporting the implementation; and guides alignment with all grant requirements. Some evening and weekend work will be required.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
· Manage a portfolio of public grants from city, county, and state sources, from proposal development, proposal writing and budget development, to the stewardship of awarded grants.
· Evaluate public funding opportunities that align with Virginia Garcia’s strategic plan and fundraising goals.
· Lead research and development of new funding opportunities that fall within the portfolio.
· Create and implement a work plan for vetted funding opportunities, and initiate meetings with Health Center staff, including department directors, for proposal development.
· Manage the development, implementation, monitoring of budgets for grant portfolio, including spend-down plans and revenue projections.
· Manage reporting for grant portfolio, including tracking and reconciling grants-related activities, in partnership with the Finance Team and Controller.
· Ensure compliance of all grants under management by meeting local, state, and federal statutes, rules, and guidance, as well as funder requirements.
· Support the overall planning and execution of Foundation events.
· Support private grant fundraising efforts as needed, including proposal writing.
· Perform other duties as assigned.
· Handle protected health information in a manner consistent with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA).
HIPAA Requirements:
The Grants Associate (GA) may have access to PHI in order to perform their job duties. The GA may also handle PHI for disclosure to outside entities. Applying the minimum necessary standard of HIPAA, the designated record sets to which this employee will have access include: all sections of the medical record, patient demographic information in the practice management system, and incoming records, reports, results, consultations, etc. The GA is required to read the content of these records only the extent needed to accomplish the assigned task.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
· Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills with ability to research and compile data on population needs, program models and prospective funding sources.
· Highly proficient with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
· Ability to incorporate complex ideas into clear and concise written products.
· Self-starter with high level of organizational skills, and ability to independently organize and prioritize workload, manage multiple deadlines, and meet grant proposal goals.

Education and Experience Required:
· Bachelor's degree in a relevant field and four years grant writing/grant management or equivalent combination of education and experience.
· Experience with organizations that provide health care and/or address the social determinants of health is preferred.
