- Semester students: May 19th to July 25th
- Quarter students: June 16th to August 22nd
- Assist design team members with production of various print and digital products using established brand standards, templates, and assets. Examples include:
- Flyers, brochures, mailers
- Digital marketing images, banners, and ads
- Passenger wayfinding signage
- Daily file management (SharePoint) following established file system and standards.
- Regular client and team communication (Office 365 tools, in-person and remote meetings), including a weekly design team meeting.
- New service and station openings in 2025 and 2026 — 1 Line extension to Federal Way, 2 Line extension across Lake Washington (I-90 bridge), NE 130th St infill station.
- Future service and capital project engagement support (general).
- Agency marketing initiatives (FIFA World Cup).
- Capital Signage design support (for stations and facilities).
- Internal and executive communication support (general).
- Familiarity with principles and fundamentals of graphic and/or visual design (print and digital), including layout, typography, photography/illustration, color usage, information hierarchy, mapping, and trends.
- Proficiency in Adobe Creative applications; specifically Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign.
- Interest in communications/marketing, public policy, and transportation.
- Strong interpersonal communication skills in-person, by telephone, and via email, and a consistent commitment and ability to work with diverse groups and individuals.
- Ability to adapt to changing environments and to work on multiple project teams and subjects simultaneously.
- Methods and techniques used in the development of graphic presentations, drawing, and photo-editing.
- Printing and print production practices, procedures, and processes.
- User-centered design practices. Knowledge in user-flows and prototyping would be beneficial, but not required.
- Experience with Figma (not required).
- Work is performed in a standard office environment.
- Subject to standing, walking, bending, reaching, stooping, and lifting of objects up to 25 pounds; may occasionally be exposed to dangerous machinery when visiting job sites during construction and when working in the field.

This is a paid internship, range of $22/hr - $39/hr (depending on role and qualifications) for those currently pursuing undergraduate degrees and higher rates for those currently pursuing graduate level degrees.

Full time during the program dates, then part-time adjusted to meet the needs of the department and school schedules, for up to 1 year or 1040 hours.
DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW
Sound Transit’s Strategy Department oversees agency, passenger, and system expansion communications throughout the Puget Sound region – Link, Sounder, ST Express, and Tacoma Link. The graphic design intern will have an opportunity to be a part of the team that oversees our creative, brand, and graphic design services and learn how a large regional transit system is managed.

Applicants must be a current college student in good academic standing, enrolled in an accredited associate, bachelor's or graduate degree program in Business Management, Communication, Program Management, or other non-technical discipline or relevant two-year certificate.
