- Serve as a frontline support for students utilizing the greenhouses/grounds.
- Assist students with problems and questions associated with lab and greenhouse work.
- Demonstrate to students the proper use of equipment, supplies, and materials. Assist students with technical problem solving.
- Assist students with watering for lab work and greenhouse work.
- Maintain plants and crops with regular watering.
- Assist as a troubleshooter if greenhouse problems occur.
- Communicate to Landscape/Horticulture faculty and staff any concerns with crop/plant health.
- Keep work/learning environment clean and orderly.
- Assist faculty in crop production process.
Assist with basic greenhouse maintenance, as needed, in coordination with Landscape/Horticulture faculty and staff.
Assist in purchasing supplies and equipment associated with Landscape & Greenhouse operations.
Make appropriate recommendations to faculty.
Perform other greenhouse duties as assigned, including but not limited to:
- 6 months of teaching/tutoring experience in Horticulture at the high school level or above
- OR 2 years of work experience in Horticulture
- OR An equivalent combination of education and work experience.
- Post-secondary coursework in Horticulture or industry certificate/diploma/degree sufficient to provide technical lab services for students, faculty, and staff OR relevant licensure in Horticulture. A bachelor's degree may substitute for one year of experience, an associate degree may substitute for 6 months of experience.
- Note: The position is expected to obtain a Pesticide Applicator’s License within the first six months of employment. Occasional pesticide applications may be required as part of this role, ensuring the health and quality of greenhouse plants. Training and support to meet this requirement will be provided by Hennepin Technical College.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Knowledge of woody and herbaceous plants.
- Current pesticide license.
- Self-starter.
- Able to work independently.
- Good work ethic.
20 hours per week, with fluctuations based on monthly needs
Weekends and holidays are required

This position exists to provide support in the management of the Landscape/Horticulture greenhouse/landscape grounds/plantings as well as assisting faculty and students in the set up and completion of lab assignments and to provide essential greenhouse watering for the Landscape and Horticulture program throughout the entire year, including student projects and plants for the annual greenhouse sale. General maintenance of the equipment and supplies associated with the program is also important.
